Used to watch this back in the 80s when I first started playing guitar...

I had the whole concert on VHS, so I thought I'd look for it on DVD or even a CD, no luck! I guess it was never released. :( Someone was kind enough to upload the whole thing on youtube, so check it out! Anyone know where I can get it on DVD? Found a few VHS on ebay but that's about it.

I was living in West Hartford when this concert happened (too bad I was 9 yrs old and had no idea who Clapton was at the time.) Heyday of the "hair bands" glad their gone and EC is still around. There is tons of great Clapton stuff on youtube. I have watched a lot of good interviews with him in the last couple of days. Clapton is why I wanted to learn to play and why I listen to so many blues artists I would have never heard of.

Those were some great Clapton years. He is the master. Seems like he gets more refined and better with age. By the way, check out the 1988 "After Midnight" with Mark Knopfler tour on DVD. The quality of the video is not so good but the performance and sound are great. And so was the opening act Buckwheet Zeidaco.

Yeah that year I saw Clapton and Knopfler in concert with Buckwheet Zeidaco as the opening act. It was Clapton's 25th annivesary tour. I saw him at Shoreline Amphitheater in Moutain View, CA. It was a great concert.

Unfortunately the opposite is true for me, he peaked in the 80s and it's been downhill ever since... I think it all started when I first heard him play a Strat with Lace Sensor pickups, hated his tone and his playing got way too boring for me. Maybe he has hearing damage and can't really hear what he sounds like...

How do you go from this to this??? Maybe it's age, but he was still in his 40s back in the 90s...

Different times, different drugs. Kind of an apples to oranges comparison of videos there. Clapton did say in one interview that after listening to some old tapes, he didn't know where he came up with some of the riffs he used to play.

Perhaps to you he's been on the down, and I also agree about the Lace Sensors, but no offense. For me his playing has gotten better and more diverse over the years and his voice is sounding better (more bluesy) with age. Perhaps he is going back to his roots of the blues, and he continues to reinvent the blues.

i respectfully disagree with you and defend slowhands playing by showing you this from a most recent recording.
personally love his tone, and his licks. albeit, these are not lace sensors, nonetheless, i like lace sensors.

I feel the same way about his Blues playing as I do his tone, it aint what I call Blues and I would never pay to go see that or even buy his CD. His Blues playing back with Mayall was his best Blues work IMO. There are plenty of unknown local Blues musicians that I'd much rather spend money to go see. I've seen Clapton live twice in the past 10 years or so, was kinda disappointed both times...

I agree with what Drew said

He was coming up with some great licks and beautiful music, it's almost like he lost that creativity when he sobered up :)

Is there suppose to be a link to whatever you're showing me?? As they say, tone is subjective, I have not heard good tone from EC in a long time... to tell you the truth, the combination of his boring licks and horrible tone gives me a headache. If I want to hear great vocals and a beautiful Strat tone I go see this guy :D

That wasn't too bad, but still doesn't really work for me, I'm happier listening to the same version I've been listening to for over 20 years  if you're not familiar with it make sure you hear the whole song and check out some of those sweet licks he was coming up with back then... the action begins around 4:00

This has been one of favorite albums for at least 25 years, I still listen to it... I've had it on vinyl, cassette, CD :)

FWIW There is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjRI8LXChus

This moves me every time. It has the LS and I do think the tone is good also.

(I realize that Clapton's tone is not always the richest, but he nails it here with tone and that solo)
