I'd like to upgrade the stock tremolo on my Mexi Strat to one that has more mass for better sustain and stability. What are my options and what's your experience?

A steel trem block will get you there -- either from Callaham or GFS.

Rather than changing the whole trem, just changing the block will give you a better sound.

Hey Melodic - just curious, why replace the stock steel block on your Am Dlx?

Mexi Strats come with a zinc tremolo block. You can upgrade to a Callaham cold rolled non-leaded U.S.A. steel block for better tone. Check out this page for the Mexican Standard upgrades that Callaham offers: http://www.callahamguitars.com/upgrades.htm

Also, for more information about Callaham blocks: http://www.callahamguitars.com/blocks.htm

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd seen the steel blocks advertised and thought they might be a good addition. Any thoughts on keeping or upgrading the rest of the tremolo? Pros/cons?

The tremolo-arm doesn't stay in the hole, it's got a pop-in arm and it doesn't 'pop' when I put the arm in.

Caution if you change out the MIM block to a Callaham, it will need a different trem arm because the standard MIM will not fit inthe Callaham. I opted for the shorter Gilmourish arm about $15.

I just upgraded the tremolol block in my MIM Strat to a factory Fender that I found on Amazon for $25. In short, well worth it, made a big difference over the zinc block. I'm not sure the Callaham block at $63 would be much better than the Fender steel?
