This is after the fact, I purchased mine and was told it was a 2008. I don’t see anything about S/N for 2008. Can you guys help? I was ok with it until i read how many are fake.

Your guitar is legit, it is a 2007 not a 2008. Z7 means decade 2000 year 7

Actually it is a 2008-spec model. Check out the bridge - bent saddles - and the maple fingerboard - glossy.

Since the 2004 change-over to the 2nd Generation of the American Deluxe models Fender has been doing at least 1 production run of the models they plan to introduce at that NAMM show in January so they can fulfill the orders they receive at the show - there used to be a joke that "NAMM" stood for "Not yet Available - Maybe in May" and Fender wants to avoid that. By "production run" I believe they do a batch of the most popular colors and perhaps any new colors that will be introduced at the show. I myself used to own a 2004 American Deluxe V-neck Strat with a 2003 serial number - pulled the neck and it was made in early December so it could be shipped out in February. This was a model that wasn't supposed to exist in 2003; it was introduced in 2004.

Based on the photos the OPs guitar is one of the first runs of the 2008 American Standard -again made in November or December of 2007 to fill NAMM show shipments and therfore it carries a 2007 serial number. The 2010 American Specials and 3rd Generation American Deluxes are also the same - they are 2010 models but the first runs were done at the end of 2009 and they carry 2009 serial numbers.

Because Fender does these early runs I still feel we should call the OP's guitar a "2008" because it carries the specifications of the model that was introduced in 2008 even though it was produced at the end of the previous year - like the new car models that came out last September/October of 2010 were called "2011" models.

1st Taking the time to write and explain the differences was done very well. You writing skill straight forward, complete and done very well.
2nd We must all be guitar nuts for the fact that no one mentioned my daughters feet in a picture. I just think everyone was focusing on the guitar.
I am finding this forum a great source of information.
