Hello everyone, first time here. I just got my new H1 in yesterday and had a few questions, 1) The tremolo arm, is it suppose to screw all the way in? Mine still has some threads showing, but it feels pretty firm in there. Was gettin harder to turn the further I went down, I guess because of the spring they have in the hole, I didn't want to keep forcing it and break it like the manual said. 2) I have 3 springs in the back, now the trem doesn't have much 'push down' action, it has plenty of 'pull back' action. If I add 2 more springs to the back, will this help that? Thanks for any help and it's much appreciated.

I am not sure if this will help much. For my highway 1 they had to find the correct tremolo arm. The guitar store took the arms off of the guitar. I watched the sales guy try several. If they were the wrong tremolo arm they only screwed in half way.

More springs in the back will require more force on the tremolo arm.

Can't say that I have the same problem with the Trem arm. Not sure on the spring part of your question. Sorry. 8)

I added an additional 2 springs to the back for a full total of 5, and this seemed to help with the 'push down' action of the trem. I wonder why it left the factory with only 3 springs? Would think they would put all 5 on there. Hmmm.

MsHardie, on the back of the strat there is a panel and underneath that panel are some springs that affect the tension of the tremolo system.

I am pretty sure all the strats leave the factory with 3 springs. After you added the 2 other springs, did you adjust the cat claw? And by that I mean did you tighten up the 2 screws that hold the cat claw in.

I have added a fourth spring on both of my strats and had to tighten up the cat claw a little bit to offset the extra tension.

When I was talking about the trem arm before, if it is not the correct thread pattern the arm will not screw in all the way. When you bought the guitar was the trm arm on it? Or did the store pull one out of a drawer and hand it to you?

Hey dk, No I didn't tighten the claw, it seems to be ok, I really don't know how to check the tension to see if it is to much. The guitar is staying in tune. As for the trem arm, they had the sticker over the hole, so no arm was in it, they removed the bar from the side pocket on the gig bag that comes with the guitar.

O.K. so it sounds like you have the correct trem arm. I bought my last strat from GC an they just opened up a drawer grabed a small bag of allen wrenches and started hunting through bags of trem arms.

As for adding the 2 other springs, look at the bottom of your bridge. Is it close to the guitar or sticking up high. If you look under support heading and click on setup it states as follows.

"Allowing the bridge to float freely (no tension on the tremolo arm) using the claw screws in the tremolo cavity, adjust the bridge to your desired angle—Fender spec is a 1/8" (3.2 mm) gap at rear of bridge. You'll need to retune periodically to get the right balance between the strings and the springs."

There is a tiny spring under that sticker you peeled off. In the hole Where the trem arm screws in. It makes the trem arm fit snug. When u take the trem arm out and turn guitar upside down the spring should fall out. You will probaly lose it, its very small. Most players lose them never knowing they were even there. Some players leave them out others like them. Taking it out should solve your problem. Also make sure theres not two of them in there.
