What do you think? Too much gold?

NAH , more more more........

Image ....More

Perhaps... but in your case it works. The guitar can handle it!

On the neck plate I would consult this thread for etching... See the mounted beauty (that sounded wrong) here.

Perhaps the Master himself will drop by and say a few words. :)

Solder is a nice temporary fix but might not last.

Looking gorgeous so far! :)

Cheers

dude that looks great. i love it. it seems like your headed towards a solid southwestern feel. if you are, i saw a sweeeeet leather pickguard a few weeks ago. a swear it wasnt gawdy either. it was freakin tight. at the time i couldnt imagin what guitar it would look good on that i personally own. it had to be something special for it to look cool. now i see what guitar it would fit on perfectly. this one.

Yep, seen the El'Dorado leather pickguards. Liked 'em, also the Rosewood ones.

I'm going to stick with the Tortoiseshell or it may not look like a Strat anymore.

I think these pickups will be pretty eye-catching.

I also have a Strat without paint. I bought it naked and then stained it a golden reddish/ brown. I matched it up with a bird's eye maple neck with rosewood fret board and a tortoiseshell pick guard.

Added some Texas Special pickups and it sounds amazing.

Blimey!

How did I miss all this!

Mark, did you pick up a Push/pull pot to split the coils on the humbucker?

Andy

Andy, yes mate. I've ordered a push/pull knob. Won't get for over a week.

This weekends mission is to do a straight swap of the pickups, just to educate meself a bit and finally play my golden nudie.

The coil splitter plan is still on mate if you have diagram.

For now I'm learning my ABCs and 123s of standard wiring.
I think I'm on top of it.

It could be a while longer :? :D

Tone controls ? hmmm. I will have to consider.

Image

Early tests indicate that this HB is much louder and brighter than the neck and mid (about 20%).

Image

I'm just playing quietly through the smokey amp though. It's 3am. Tomorrow I'll play it through the tube amp, and tell you what I really think :D

Here's the link to the ebay listing for the HB.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT

I got your question wcjr, just wasn't sure how to answer
I'm not technically minded at all or any kind of tone-freak.
I always liked the old Danelectro lipstick sound and thought these would be a modern hot version of those. A nice clear chimy surf sound is what I'm after, something a bit different from the norm since this is Strat number 3. As far as the HB goes, it's quite a beast. It has none of the muddiness that I've experienced with other Humbuckers, in fact it's way bright and clear (AND LOUD), 12K output seems like a lot to me. I'm hoping to get some Gibson-like sounds. Yes, I know you can't make a Strat sound like a LP (but you can try :D )
The pickups are high quality, fit nicely with no mods. They have a great slim clean look.

I did as much research as I could on these GFS pro-tubes, reviews etc, but in the end , I had to take the gamble. It's still too early to recommend them but I like 'em a lot.

At worst, I have a good looking, quality HSS setup with little audible difference from the standard sound.

At best, I have something really special :)

The more I play it, the more I'll be able to enlighten.

G'day.

Image

I had a chance to try the pickups out this weekend. I'm impressed.
The most impressive thing was the lack of noise.
A testimony to my soldering skills?
The reverse wound mid?

This is my test amp. Fender Super 210. One of the much maligned (not sure why) red knob amps of the 80s.

Image

Image

I found the pickups to be quite versatile and was able to cover a great variety of sounds with a few amp adjustments.
The middle and neck are not unlike other hot wound Strat pickups I've tried, a bit like the Hot Classic pickup in my CS, maybe a bit brighter and bell-like.
The humbucker is going to take a bit more getting used to
It's great. It' epic actually. I'd like to be able to control the tone on the guitar though.
OK, it doesn't sound exactly like a Gibson, but tweaking the amp, I was getting sounds that J Page or Slash would be happy with .....um I'm talking about tones you understand, not the actual playing. I also found a sweet BB King setting, Mid/Bridge (position 2 ?) with a little gain and some reverb, nice :) :) (The thrill isn't gone).

Image

Anydbighair has offered his guidance with the Custom wiring and if you read this Andy, please bear in mind that my level of expertise is ..............

Image

I have a few questions.
Can the push/pull knob be - pull out for SSS, in for HSS and vice versa ?
Can the HB be given it's own tone control and/or it's own volume ?

I'll be doing the wiring in about 2 weeks, so plenty of time for suggestions.
Any advice would be great.
