The most important rule is that you have to be able to "walk away" if the negotiations don't work your way. If it's something you really REALLY want, it will show on your face or voice and you'll have zero wiggle room. It's really a lot like playing poker.

Some times you win, sometimes you lose. But, there are lots of Fender dealers around so if one doesn't work out, go to another.

But I use the same mindset with anything I purchase of substantial value. Not just Fender products or musical instruments. Never negotiated a medical procedure but believe it or not I heard on the news a few weeks back that even that is possible! That floored me. :shock:
