I'm coming around to your way of thinking. I do a lot of driving around L.A. and everytime I'm near a GC or Sam Ash I stop and see what they have. I've played every style of neck except a U and the more I play the more I'm realizing I could probably adapt to just about any of them. Even the V doesn't seem that bad anymore. I played a John Mayer today and it has some special pups that sounded pretty nice. I'm thinking real hard about that one. I like the look of the Olympic White better than the wine color of the special mahogony I played the other day with the Tex Mex pups. Though the special is still my favorite overall. I may end up using the scientific method and put a bunch of Strat pictures up on a dart board and see what gets picked.

Drew - I think you are doing the right thing - it's all about feel and you are trying a bunch of Strats. If one feels right you just can't do wrong. Now on to you Guild - THAT BABY IS BEAUTIFUL !!! Just a stunning vintage guitar - wow, I love it!!
