You can come up here to Oregon, we do not have a sales tax.

That's why I like to take the train down to Portland and shop at Apple...

Next trip down let me know and I will introduce you to my friends at Portland Music, same prices you get at Guitar center, but better people and great service to back it up.

It's up to the border customs whether or not they will charge you tax. The only way is for the sender to not post the invoice on the outer packaging so that customs will see that it is indeed a purchase. When I bought from Ishibashi, my strat flew through our border without a hitch :)

interestingly states have their own laws concerning commerce and it's taxation. :?

 Are you serious?! I allways thought goods and services tax would be the same state to state... Perhaps they should change that- I can't see how that would benefit the economy- you could go to another state and go bargain shopping! :)

Most mail order companies will list the states they charge sales tax for. I have purchased from multiple companies online and not had to pay sales tax. However if you are a working musician, you can get a tax write-off that is probably larger than the amount you'd save by not paying sales tax. But in that circumstance you would have to declare the purchase when filing your taxes for that given year. Just a thought.
