I like that philosophy...... AND YES i followed it, gave up... Fender Classic 70's strat in olympic white will be shipping monday. But my rational is.,,,, First, the $100 bucks off, guitar is used but was listed at 499. Minus the hundred 399. I had bought a Fender FSR strat (a black on black, with aged white knobs/pu covers) last weekend from Guitar center, i got 10% off, but with their price guarantee, will be getting $60 back from them, that brings the price down to 340 for $750 guitar.... this is the way I am justifying at least.. hope your enjoying the weekend... myself, I just got done swapping out the ceramic pups for a set that came with a Fender classic 50's, I put hot noiseless in the classic 50's, the ceramics sounded decent, but know i know the difference, the vintage alnico's are much nicer. I was looking at the D Allen pickups... really like the standard 54's , any thoughts on those? seemed great and the price is reasonable... Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated..

Play the guitar as is for a while, weeks, months....
Use the pots for varying output, Use your Amp's Settings for finding the right tone, then ( what amp are you using ? solid or valves ? ) if still unable to find that sound then go ahead and sample guitars with the pups you think you would like. Once found then you can swap them.

Sorry but too many people are just swapping components out without really investigating what they need and how to achieve it....
You must find your own signature sound, not easy, definitely time consuming, but it does not require changing everything in a guitar every five minutes.

Thanks for the tips,,.. I will have to agree to disagree in a sense. I know how I want a guitar to sound. I know that if I can spend some money upgrading and it will help me get that sound , I will. I am getting older, have a bit more money now, spent my youth making things work that I had to work with, which was good. You cant make a hooker into a housewife,.... Cant make a silk purse out of a sow's ear...... In my opinion, Fender should offer a body and neck option guitar, because most people upgrade the rest.... just my thoughts... So what you think of those D Allen pickups........

I'm not at all familiar with the D allen pups. As far as an option for a body and a neck.
There is enough of a problem with some people attempting to pass off stratopartsters as the original McCoy's, I doubt very much we'll ever see Fender offering that option.
No need really with the proliferation of aftermarket body and neck manufacturers, some are licensed by Fender.
