Thanks. I managed to modify a pick guard on mine. Just realized that the pots on the one I just bought are 87k. They don't seem standard and the second tone pot is 2-pole... I'm guessing 250kohm. Anyone know what the standard pots are?

Are you talking about the same Strat as here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=94965 ?
Again, pics from the present situation (wiring, pots, caps etc.) would be nice.
Never heard of an 87K pot used in a Strat, a 100K might give that reading but they also are seldom seen.

Does your wiring by any chance resemble this:

Yes, it's the guitar from my thread. The Stratocaster is the same exact model as the first original post of this thread. It's stamped with the 562 on the neck and body, Kahler Spyder bridge and nut, Gohol Tuners, and no country of origin stamped on the guitar. I'm restoring it back to the original components. Ordered new components to replace the aftermarket humbucker on the guitar. I'm just missing the pots and top locking piece with the three screws for the nut.

OK, I was a little late - I didn't know you're going from the HSS to three single coils.
There's a ton of wiring diagrams (with pot & cap values) in the support pages, just take your pick:

Thank you :D
Looks like I need 250k pots. Not sure if it's linear or audio taper but I'll just order some Fender brand 250k pots and see what comes in!

Nah mate. It's beyond my expertise. 250k sound good to me.
Nice to see one getting restored. Mine's been a fine axe. I don't play electric much any more. It might be time to sell.
At least I can direct a potential buyer to this thread if there's any doubt about it's authenticity.

It's awesome the way you brought that back. Hate to ask, but do you think the residual black streak will come off the upper horn? Best as I can tell, that's the only thing that's not bordering on utter perfection (I wish I'd bought it, but my electronics work wouldn't be as clean as yours...)

Here's one that I picked up. Of course, I thought it was a real Strat because of the serial number and thought 750 was a reasonable price.

Posting here per others suggestion.

Serial E8148xx
Headstock D ST-562F
Cavity -Fender 562 E or F
Pots MK250K and either a Q or A
Tuners GOTOH
NUT KAHLER
Bridge - KAHLER (Floyd Rose) Spider
Color ? Lake placid blue TBD

Beautiful color. And it IS a real Strat. I LOVE this style,...they play and sound wonderful. That super heavy Kahler helps with sustain I believe...

$750 isn't that bad, especially for that great shade of blue.

I'm slightly jealous.

One day I'm sure we'll know a bit more about these...

Yes it's a nice example Treyson. I said $450, but I think they're under-valued, probably because of the confusion of origin. Brand new, mine was priced mid way between US and Japanese Strats of the time. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks. I appreciate it.

This being my first American Strat it was disappointing to find out about the whole identity crisis and Kahler V. Floyd Rose debate.

It never occurred to me to check whether or not the tremolo would diminish the value. This is a nice, clean 9.5/10 guitar that is 26 years old.

The color is a nice blue although I am not 100% certain of the exact name yet.

Can't wait to play it.

It is a real Strat, but it's not an American Strat.

To put a long story short: At the time these MIJ's were made, US production was sort of (=understatement) struggling. The CBS era came to its end, the FMIC was restarting production. IMHO, the Japan Fenders could easily match, in many cases surpass, the US quality.
Against that background, all this "identity crisis" is IMHO unnecessary, and also somewhat unfair to these instruments.

The price you paid wasn't a bargain, but you weren't robbed, either (provided the seller didn't willfully deceive you). The Kahler, the color, the condition - all somewhat rare to justify the price. And as mentioned before, the market value of these guitars does not match the quality.

But: Reading between the lines, you don't seem totally happy about the purchase. (A new Strat should make you go wooww...)
So, you should seriously consider if you ever will be satisfied with this guitar - the expectations you had vs. the reality. It's not a question of the guitar itself, this relates to how you feel. If you feel disappointed with it every time you pick it up to play, maybe the wise thing to do is cut your losses and sell it forward.
