Tell me about this guitar please. I have a chance to get one at a nice price and have read good reviews but wanted to see what my Fender brethren knew about this model. I hear the neck is chunky but see it is only a 9.5 radius. Custom Shop pups in it.

What say you?

I bought one.

Ripped it apart to build something else.

Recycled all of the parts into other projects.

Good stuff.

I'm saying it was purpose-bought to be a "donor" for other projects and I disemboweled it the day after it arrived. I did play it briefly for an hour or two -- it sounded like a nice hardtail Strat. Beautifully-matched three-piece alder body with a flawless 3TSB finish. The fretboard was a nice hunk of dark-and-uniformly-grained rosewood glued to a typically-adequate maple neck, with the "aged/tinted" clear gloss poly finish to protect the maple. The radius is 9.5 inches and the frets are medium jumbos. The hardware and tuners are both of the vintage-spec variety. The pickups sounded similar to the CS 57/62 set except the for the bridge which sounded significantly beefier. A Cray Strat is a nice guitar that will do pretty much whatever you want it to do (unless you're a trem-bar junkie).

well i am thinking $475 in mint condition with an SKB is too good to pass up  I'm thinking it will make a nice little player for me to decide if I like a strat. I have never really bonded with but 1 strat in my life and that one is long gone.

That's a great price and the HSC adds gravy to an already-sweet deal.

Go for it!

I'm personally not a fan of artist signature models but a few years back a "MIM Robert Cray" came along at a price i couldn't say no to, the attracting feature for me was the hard tail.
Didn't keep it long as found the sound far to thin/weak for my liking, the hard tail that i though was a bonus was a disadvantage, lost a lot of tone/body sustain through it.
I didn't want to start swapping parts around because it would of detracted away from what it was, Robert Crays Signature model, so moved it on .

But when i say I'm not a fan of artist signature models, will contradict myself by saying, a Clapton Strat, will blow you away!!, work horse an a half !!! 8)
