I'm getting an effects pedal tomarrow that has about 50 preset effects. I have a medley of songs to perform and I was wondering what effects I should use for the following songs:

Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
I'm pretty much set on a clean sound

House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
Was thinking Clean.

Wild Thing - The Troggs
Clean and the beginning and a little fuzz towards the end.

Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix
?

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Small Distort
Layla - Eric Clapton
I was thinking Overdrive.

Day Tripper - The Beatles
?
Iron Man - Black Sabbath

I was thinking fuzz on this.

Thanks for all the help in advance! Keep in mind it doesnt have to be perfect. Thanks Again :P

stair way to heaven - i use clean with a slight overdrive and delay

purple haze - i mix a fuzz with a overdrive to give a smoothe but high gain drive that sounds pretty similar to the origional... i also use a alternating sterio delay for the solo...

layla - i use a medium dist and slight reverb...

the others you have about rite...

Purple Haze octave up fuzz.

Ironman Overdrive.

Daytripper Compressor and short reverb.

If your getting the Digitech RP90, it does all of those effects.

Hi Mate,

check out the digitech.com website, there should be a whole forum devoted to these sort of tones.

If you enjoy playing these timeless pices, one option may be to use your own sound on what you feel sounds good on each one (as they all are diverse in tone) and make it your own interpretation. Kind of like, interpretation not duplication.

I am a minimalist when it comes to effects.

I own three pedals. Maxon OD9, keeley modified ibanez analog delay. and a MXR 10 band EQ. Amp gain/amp reverb does the rest.

Ive gotten to know my stuff, and when it comes to live shows, I'll tackle anything from old funk to blues to alternative to heavy metal. We are an original band, but do a a wide range of covers also(usually slightly off beaten classics) that are "re-vamped" to fit in with the vibe of our originals. I just "bend" my sound a little and tweak my playing to make it work.

I feel if you're going to use a lot of effects.....use them ALL THE TIME so that you get accustomed to them and making it sound consistent and seem "seamless". Sound guys like it when things remain pretty level the whole way through. For me....I like the simplicity. I dont want to master integrating a bunch of effects while still maintaining some level of consistancy, so I just prefer to ramp the drive/distortion up or down all thru one pedal(or the vol knob or the amp). The average listener wont know mild drive from fuzz but they will be able to tell if you stand out real well in some songs, and fall out of mix in the others. Just my opinoin though, YMMV
