I fell in love with the second Stratocaster I ever played...

My son was looking at Squire Strats and having a good time, so I took down a couple of guitars and just noodled around...

The second one I tried fit my hands like it was made for me... played like a dream and had a sound that was just fantastic (I was playing it through a couple thousand dollars worth of tube amp... so I had to bring back one of mine for a second aucition...)

My problem is identifying this model/part number/etc... Without that I can't find a parts list or wiring diagram...

It's listed as a Mexican Strat, anyone can see that it's setup as an HSS, but the black anodized/engine turned aluminum pick guard (and back cover), the domed top-chrome knobs and chrome Fender Stratocaster inlay in the black head don't show up anywhere in the catalog or any listing of Fender guitars I've been able to find...

I would have thought that a 60th Anniversary Special Edition would be listed SOMEWHERE???

Any information would be appreciated... meanwhile I'll just keep enjoying the HSS tones and people's guessing I spent a lot of money on it

could've been a special run for a specific store. guitar center and musicians friend have exclusive special runs all the time. or someone could've changed some parts on the guitar.

It's brand new... bought off the shelf in a small town mom & pop store... (Hamilton, MT)

Jim saw it in the a catalog preview and ordered just one for his store...

I sort of took it just before he had completely decided whether or not to add it to his personal collection. He'd reduced the price to almost his cost after it hung on the wall a year... so I got it cheap...<g>

That's why it's got me so puzzled... it wasn't presented as anything really out of the ordinary... "Special Edition" could have meant a bunch of them were made... But I've spent some time looking and haven't found another one like it yet... (and I TEACH people to use search engines)

Here's the real problem... I can't figure out the Part Number so far 'cause I haven't found a matching model...

The original Fender tag hasn't got initials in the prep, assembly or tune/test blocks... just an inspector's name...

No part number either... just the S/N that I wiped off the picture<g>

Current plans include putting trim pots (AKA variable resistors) inside to bring the Humbucker volume closer to the single coils...

To get that right... without a lot of trial and error... I'll need to know what's in the circuit now... (yes, I play an electronic tech in real life... when I'm not pretending to be a computer guru...)

I'm pretty sure one of the Mexican HSS/Fat Strat schematics will be the one... but I'd sure like to KNOW!<VBG>

There's one for sale on E-Bay right now. Search "Fender Black FSR Stratocaster" The sellers says the part number is "Fender # 013-0162-506." No other useful information though.

That's the puppy!

OOps... I went backand noticed that the "Special Edition" stamp wasn't on those two... they are the same otherwise... hmmmm...<G>

Unfortunately that part number doesn't cross in the listing either... but it gives me a starting point to discuss the issue with a Fender techie...

Now I REALLY want that schematic and parts list!!!

I checked and my pick guard and knobs ARE avilable through the Fender parts department... thats good news

Thanks for the lead...

My price, BTW, was lower than either of those listed on EBay<g>

Yeah, there was thread not that long ago about Guitar Center selling MIM Strats in-store with the MIA Sienna Sunburst finish.

Probably the best source to find out more information would be where the guitar was bought. I'd bought my FSR Straight Six Stratocaster from Ballew's Music, then when I'd gone back later to copy the address of the product description page, it was listed as SOLD OUT. I was like "WOW, I got the last one they had!" Also once you get a good line on just what that particular FSR run was called, you can find out how many were made by looking at the product description at a site like Musician's Friend. In my case, the FSR Straight Six Stratocaster was a run of 831.

Factory Special Run's (FSR's) use regular series serial numbers just like other Fenders according to where they are made.
