I have an LSR nut on my Deluxe Strat w/ locking Schallers and a Fender Floyd.... I'm super impressed (I bomb it to death sometimes with no ills) but I also agree that it's a pretty involved (and relatively expensive) change and you'd probably be better off with a graphite nut and good locking tuners. My guitar also has Lace Sensors from the factory, so no "tone issues" are perceivable...these sensors are not "traditional" pick-ups and seem to work very well with this style nut (The whole is equal to the sum of it's parts) If you're only having issues with the strings "sticking", first try a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of graphite powder in the string slots...DO NOT GET THIS ON THE FRETBOARD OR ANY OTHER PARTS OF THE GUITAR...I've seen this make quite a (permanent) mess when over-used. this stuff is commonly used as a lock lubricant and can be located at most hardware stores. It comes in a "pen-type" applicator and can be placed very precisely where you need it, just be cautious. I have used it in stock (plastic) nuts with 6 screw vibrato arms, which can be notorious for going out of tune during hard use, and I've had no problems.

Go for the locking tuners first, you won't believe what a difference they make. I also second the graph tech nuts. The graphite lube as mentioned I can also agree with if you don't want the look of the black graphit nut.
I considered the LSR nut for a project guitar but decided it was too much work and I also didn't really care for the look.

I used 09´, 10´, and 11´ on my strat, with roller nut.
No problems at all, the LSR have enough space for 11.
But...it really doesn´t help with tuning, I used it it Schaller locking tuners, and had to forget the whammy bar anyway.
My advice is: don´t use the roller nut, doesn´t improve anything and I agree that looks horrible.
I´m very curious how Mr. Malmsteen really tunes his guitar, because he doens´t have any strange gimmicks (aparently) on his guitar, but he can do some dive bombs and stay in tune very well.
I was reading his explanation about "the secret"...and obiously he didn´t said nothing really interesting.
