has anyone got one fitted on their strat?
just looking for a few opinions on it.
i heard a little rumour that only light gauge strings can be used if fitted?
i use 11s, will this be an issue?

I have one on my American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS. It comes stock with 0.009's. I have changed the strings, but I have only replaced with original gauge so I can't help you with whether 11's would work with the LSR roller nut.

Check that link, it shows a fairly close up view of the LSR roller nut. It appears that the slots for the strings are fairly small, so they might not fit. But, like I said I have not personally tried 11's. Maybe someone who has will post and help you further.

With the locking tuners and the LSR roller nut my guitar rarely goes out of tune. I don't use my wammy bar at all, but I don't have the bridge blocked. I play/practice 2-3 hours a night and I check the tuning daily and it is rarely, if ever out of tune more than a fraction of a turn on one or two strings. I have been highly impressed with both the tuners and the nut on my guitar.

Good luck with some replys about using 11's on the LSR though.

I had the LSR on an American Deluxe Strat. I hated the way if felt and looked. It didn't keep the guitar in tune any better than my others guitars with a standard nut.

I'm not a fan of the LSR nut. I just don't like the look of it. To me it looks like a rapper with grillz on his teeth.

The LSR roller nut with Sperzel locking tuners is a real nice set-up. You will get a little different sound than if you used a bone nut or a Tusq nut. If installed properly, it will give little friction, and help with tuning problems. Use a little lube on it to ensure smooth operation.

seems to be a marmite verdict here.
its a bit expensive getting the sperzal locking tuners and LSR to then decide i dont like it.
think a visit to my guitar shop is in order!

i read on a site selling them that it recommends 9s, but it doesnt give any indication that 11s wouldn't fit though.

This is straight from"Guitar Player repair guide"
"Both Original and Fender/Wilinson nuts have a chrome-plated brass housing that holds 6 loose fitting needle-bearing rollers at its front edge. The nuts 6 individual string slots measure, from treble to bass, .011", .014", .018", .028", .038", and .049". Deduct a half-thousandth(.0005) from each measurement for chrome plating, and you'll know what string guages fit through the slots( a set of .010-.046 works best) An optional nut for .012-.052 strings is available" I hope this helps you out!!

If your worried about staying in tune, go with the Graphtech nut. I use it along with locking machine heads and I can abuse the bar all day. Besides if you go with the LSR you have to cut alot more wood out. There is no going back after that. It also makes the Strat sound tinny. Like your playing on a brass nut.

In the end it comes down to personal choice but for my money, the Graphtech does what I want. Just my .002

My reply to another topic that I think, might be relevant to this one...

Here's are the specs I found on Google for the LSR...

"LSR—Linear String Rotation—reduces friction that can cause tuning instability. Accept string gauges .008 to .056. Mounting hardware and instructions included. Right-hand only."

....I've heared of people using 12's with LSRs without any problems.

Agree with Graph-Tech nut. With Schaller Locking Tuners it stays in tune almost perfectly!
