few questions

The new american standard ( form 2008 to now ) has a different bridge from my 2004 . the saddles are like bent . Do they get in the way for palmmuting ??? . i play metal ( think metallica old school ) and punk rock so palm muting is 90 % of my playing .

i really like the bridge on my 2004 but its flat saddles .. the new saddles are like bent .. do they make palm muting arkward ???

also in case i buy a 2008 .. can i change only the saddles to the older one ???

its the only thing that keep me form buying a guitar i have my eyes on on ebay .

*** i odnt knwo if the new one are call vintage or bent saddles

but the one i have on my 2004 are these one
http://www.axesrus.com/Hardware/Terms/S ... addles.jpg

theres very flat and work perfectly .

thank you .

Palm muting does feel different with the "bent" saddles. The main reason is because the grub screws used to set the saddle height usually stick up above the saddle, and this can be uncomfortable to your hand if they stick up too high. I still wouldn't let this stop me from buying an awesome guitar though. You will adjust to the new saddles just fine over time. Of course, if it is too bad, you can swap out the saddles, but I think you will adapt if you are patient.

And give it some time.

Steve is spot on here.
Or instead of swapping saddles (cos I think that bent steel saddles give the best attack ever for thrash styles). You can swap grub screws.Or even file the bottom edge of them if your confident you have plenty of clearance from the frets. (that opinion will change over time)

Im pretty sure you can throw in the old flat saddles.

But, I play a lot of punk and metal too and palm mute a lot on bent strat saddles and even on 3 barrel tele saddles. It just takes a bit of time to get used to the feel, but they arent a technical limitation.

Either way, its good to see another dude playing punk and metal on a Fender 8)

i think the string spaceing changed on the new bent sadles so your old ones will not fit correctley...you may find aftermarked saddles that will, like graphteck ,callaham ect....Now i play metal with lots of palm mutes and speed picking and i have gotten used to the bent saddles

Is the OP referring to vintage style saddles? If not then I'm not getting this "bent" thing.

I know a lot of folks prefer the old style (6 screw) bridges but I think the 2 point system works and feels better.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The newer US standards have more comfortable saddles than the older bent ones (vintage-style, before the flat ones) - the screws don't stick out so far and, in my opinion, are perfectly comfortable.
