HSS is a common configuration for a Strat, but I prefer an HHH set-up with coil-split/tap abilities because of the wider versatile sonic palette we could get from.

I'm strictly traditionalist when it comes to Strats,I only like the SSS configuration. The SSS was the original and is the one that I cut my teeth on and I feel comfortable playing any genre of music on the SSS.When I wanted a humbucker equipped guitar the HSS was never given a thought I just went out and got an Epi G-400 Custom(SG body 3 pup Les Paul).Stick to the tried and true classic formula of SSS.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I wound up going with the SSS because the 2 position sounded better, and I realized that with the Texas Specials I could distort the heck out of it and still sound great. I just didn't need a humbucker. (I've never been able to get 'buckers to do their thing for me anyway.) The SSS is a great guitar, and I'm really happy with it.

Wise choice, congratulations. If you need HBs, look for a Gibson.
