I just picked up a 94 MIM strat special from a friend of mine. I did not give a lot for the guitar. I was told the story on this guitar was that: in 1994 the Mexican fender plant burned down and some of those mexican guitars were temporarily built in the US, and that this was one of those guitars. The serial number designates this guitar to be 1994 MIM. The start of serial # is MN4, however there is no place on the head stock that says Made in Mexico(or usa for that matter). I was wondering if any one else has heard this story and how one can tell if this is in fact a USA built guitar. Also wondering that if this is the case, if they are at all rare. Before I go and change a bunch of things out on this guitar. Thanks

i just checked online and the mexican plant did burn down and some guitars were made in the US even though they were sold as mexican.

You could contact Fender with your serial number and ask them directly, their records only go back to about 93. There is some truth to the story of the US/Mex Strats at that time period, maybe 93-95. The Mex Strats from the early/mid 90s are very nice, the Squiers included.
