Question here for anyone who has a Vintage Hot Rod 57 and has been able to compare it to other V-shaped Strat necks.

Specifically, how does it compare in terms of neck size to a Clapton neck (as I am quite familiar with that neck having played one for years).

I had chance to try one yesterday, but had been trying an SRV immediately before it and as a result the VHR57 neck felt tiny in comparison!!

I wasn't sold on the pickups in the guitar - but it's an ex-display one so is at a cracking price (on a par with an American Standard!!) so I'd be fully prepared to swap out the pups as the rest of the spec is what I'm looking for, but I'm concerned that the neck might be too small for my tastes and having tried the SRV beforehand has coloured my perception of it so I wanted to get some other opinions.

ZZDoc - am I right in thinking you have a Clapton as well as your recently acquired VHR?

A slither slimmer than a Clapton neck, a touch more V shaped too. Kind of inbetween the hard V of 57RI's and Clapton.
I'd have thought given your liking for Blackmore the pickups would be right up your street. Loads of power and grunt. What amp did you plug it into? The tonezone in particular doesn't fare well with American sounding amps that have a lack of low mids. Makes em sound a little flabby in the bass dept' when overdriven. Rather than the usual British suspects that seem to be nice and tight in the same circumstance.
For £800 thereabouts, if you don't want it, I'll buy it. So let me know when you've made your mind up eh?

You must have me mistaken for someone else as I have no liking of Blackmore...I don't dislike him as such, but he's just not my cup of tea.

I'm very much in the John Mayer and Matt Schofield camp in terms of the tone I like so favour underwound vintage pickups.

Oh and it wasn't £800 - it was £999, which is not a lot more than most stores seem to be ticketing the American Standards at.

I've decided to go with the SRV (and change the pickguard - possibly the pickups but I'll give them a chance!!) as I prefer the big neck.

If you're still interested in it at that price then it's Sounds International in Bath...

I've already got one that colour. I was after the black one more than anything.
