I have been playing around with different types and makes of capacitors for the tone control in my strat.
So far:
Original ceramic (yuck)
Mallory (OK)
Orange Drops (good)
NTE MRL series (slightly better than the orange drops)

I have some vitamine Q's and SoZo mustard caps on the way to try out.

What else have you guys tried? I'm looking for something that retains a bit of the sparkle and attack even as the tone control is turned down.

RS Guitarworks:

Modern RS 0.047 cap and the RS Jensen Paper and Oil 0.047 cap.

I really like the Jensen Paper and Oil cap. It has a 'woodier' (is that a word?) sound to it. The modern cap was brighter. Both were very clean, but the Paper and Oil just sounded better.

I changed all my guitars over to the Jensen.

I put a .001 cap on the volume pot about 4 years ago. Now it's 4 years later and I'm thinking about taking it off, it seems useless now, being that I don't really care how much treble I lose when the volume goes down.

Actually I would like to see a cap mod for darkening up single coils or any type of mod for that matter. I want my tone characteristics to be more "Gibsoney like", not so much trebly, just a lot of darkness while maintaining that single coil growl, if that makes since.

Try an .047uF cap to get rid of the high end some. If that doesn't cut it for you, try a higher value like a 100uF cap.

Thanks, I think I'll go for broke and try the 100uF cap.

I have some of the older RS Guitarworks Hovland Music caps in a couple of my guitars and love them. I have yet to try the Jensen's they use now.
