Strats USUALLY came with a pickguard.

However, on certain high-end contemporary models such as the now-discontinued American Deluxe FMT and QMT, the pickguard is absent.

You wouldn't rather have a rear mount body and have no pickguard at all? Show off as much of that figuring as possible?

I was thinking how a clear, transparent guard would compliment the flamed body and protect it.

Looks awesome though!

The next custom body build that gets done will be back loader using Chrome Dome pickups..... I will have to think about the clear pickguard......

Did you plan to do something different to change things a bit? Almost all your custom builds came with a pickguard. I never seen a customized Strat Plus/Ultra build without a pickguard, a side-mount jack and black anodized steel dome knobs. They suit perfectly a fancy Stratocaster body made up from exotic timbres such as koa, spalted maple, lacewood, korina or buvinga.

Actually I am going to take some snaps of another Plus I built to help satisfy your desire to see other colored Lace Sensors used! Regarding the other items you mentioned, most of my work is based upon the Plus series. That has been my forte for years. I know that the lovers of these guitars will buy them when I go to sell, whereas, if I build something akin to a Partscaster, using Warmoth and other items, especially the neck, then people would be more hesitant to buy them once I decide to sell one off. Also you can geta ton of money into all these aftermarket parts with a lot of labor, only to sell for less than you have invested. So I have been sticking in a area that I know people trust me with....and a name brand they trust—FENDER.

There have been some other "Plus based" customized Strats that were a bit "out of the box." Like this 1993 Crimson Burst Strat Plus DX that is wired like a like an double Ultra using two sets of Chrome Domes Duallys with a standard Chrome Dome stuck in between. The Ash top and back is beautiful and this one has a "skunk" stripe down the back that was made from a very light piece of wood, making the back almost look like one solid piece of Maple.

I did some fine tuning to this Strat today. Man, the Ebony is slick feeling. I like it. Shot some picts under natural light so you can see what it really looks like. The other picts were shot at night time under bright halogen lights. Totally different. I will have a hard time selling this, if and when I do.

The Abalone inlays stand out nice against the Ebony. Also I forgot to mention that this is a 1996 Anniversary Ultra neck.

I will be posting a few other builds shortly.

are you being sarcastic? cause I would buy that in a heartbeat. sure the body is not a fender but on ebay you can get a plus/ultra body easily.

anyways very very nice guitar.

Not being sarcastic, but just loving it! Because I am so OCD I do end up selling a lot of my guitars just so I can build new ones. It is kind of a stress release for me to mess with these. BTW, I have owned a lot of Ultras and this body is better than most of them. 1st, the Maple top is not only highly flamed, but is about .25 of an inch thick, unlike the paper veneer tops on an Ultra. I really like the select Alder on the back and how it is stained the mahogany color. I was just playing this stereo through a Fender Bassman 10 and a Peavey Vintage with a 15" speaker, wow so sweet. Dived with it hard using the tremolo and it was dead on tune afterward. Anyhow, more to come. Thanks for your comment.

I mentioned that I wanted to post some picts of another recent build for CHROMEFACE. He is always wondering why I do not use many of the other flavored Lace pickups. Well I have and still do from time to time. Like this 1990 (Note the N9 serial number?

Image

Fender used E9xxxx and N9xxxxxx and even a few N0xxxx serial numbers for 1990! Now N0xxxx makes sense because N0 = Ninety 0 or 1990. I do not know how many times I have sold a 1990 Strat Plus on eBay to have some “smart” guy tell me I am a dumb bozo for saying it was a 1990 and not a 1999. Here's a little info on dating Plus guitars and knowing the N9 is a 1990 (thereabouts): 1) The Wilkinson Nut (Fender changed over to the LSR Nut mid-1993;) 2) The serial number is on the FRONT of the headstock (Fender moved the serial numbers to the back of the headstock in 1995). Ok about this guitar.

This is a 1990 Strat Plus that I put what I call a hopped up "Stevie" Ray Vaughan type of Lace Sensor setup. It uses Green/Green/Purple Dually Lace pickups wired like an Ultra. The Greens are voiced like Texas Specials and the Purples are a kind-of-like Gibson P-90 sound. Having them in a Dually setup with the mini-switch allows front/back/both in series pickup selection. This has a very interesting very fine grained Alder body with a reddish sunburst see-through finish.

Thats a sweet strat too, love that color! Yeah, Xhef - I love, love, LOVE Ebony. All of my guitars necks (i.e. fretboards) are in fact Ebony and I don't see any reason why I'd want anything else (hate the fact the 90% of all Fenders are Maple/Maple, yawn.) Yeah the abalone dots are sweet, Mother-of-Pearl f'in 'pops' on Ebony as well, which is what I went with on my DM strat. That being said, seeing as all my guitars currently have Ebony fretboards, the next one I get will be Ziricote I think.

Wow, "Communication break down.....it drives me insane, I am having a real good sized breakdown, it's always the sameeeeee." Lead Zep?? It was not till ORC stated this that I understood what the Pink meant! "I will have a hard time selling it"??? LOL! No, I will have a hard time letting this baby go. Thanks for clarifying for me ORC! I could sell this tomorrow if I wanted too! :-)
