I used the GFS steel block to replace the zinc cast block in my 09 MIM Standard Strat. Sounds great. No regrets. Callaham is overpriced in my opinion.

That contradicts everything I have read and was lead to believe. Can you provide a reference?

i measured my string spacing 2 1/16, it does contradict what i have, actuall looked at the serial no. is Z5@#@#@, its actually a 2005.
i would rather purchase a gfs, but the usa specd block they have matches well with a 2 7/32 string spacing. ive been searching all over google, not replaced an am std with gfs. mim, cp 60s mim.
no need for apology. i wasnt offended. besides i respect your opinion as most members from this forum.

hey there, allow me to weigh in. I bought the brass block from GFS, and added the trem are as well (since my old wouldn't fit). great improvement in tone and sustain. however, the trem arms are a bit on the thin side, and mine broke while setting the thing up. as far as the spacing goes, measure the base plate of the bridge and go from there.

The spacing may have changed before '08 for the two point bridge, or maybe the two point bridge was always 2-1/16, but my '08 Am Std has 2-1/16 inch spacing, and I believe that the new Am Stds with two point bridge are also 2-1/16. The Am six screw bridges are still 2-7/32. The Mex strats used to be 2-1/16 spaced six screw bridges, but now some models have the Am spaced 2-7/32 inch six screw bridges. I guess the only way to be sure is to measure. :)

Well I hate to be a stick in the mud, particularly with a metric measurement.
But I measured the string spacing on my AM STD trem at 54mm, E-E, center to center as near as I could judge. Thats a pre 08 trem.

I knew before it wasn't 52mm (2 1/8"), cos I'm playing with my fingers pretty exclusively these days. More like 2 1/4".

All I have is plastic calipers, it looks like 52 mm is 2-1/16 inch, and 56 mm is 2-7/32 inch. Does that sound right to you nikininja? I'd say that your measurement of 54 mm would be closer to the narrow 2-1/16. I'm pretty sure that the Am bridge blocks only have two sizes, 2-1/16 inch spaced and 2-7/32 inch spaced. It's difficult, but measuring at the holes in the block is the best.

wouldnt the strings line up on the center by default. so by measuing the E string to Estring.
i get 2 1/16. and to test this theory, i measured the avri hr 57 E2E 2 7/32.

52 mm = 2.05" = about 2 1/16" (2.06")

54 mm = 2.13" = 2 1/8"

56 mm = 2.20" = about 2 7/32" (2.22")

Well not to make things more confusing.
The classic series strats MIM has the 6 point vintage schronized style trem that's different from the standard MIM vintage 6 point trem. In fact my Classic series MIM saddles rusts and is not chrome plated like the standard MIM 6 point. Also, the word "Fender" goes in opposite directions on the saddles and it's wider than the Standard MIM which have the word "Fender" going in the same direction. Short story long, the Classic series strats, although MIM, are different than the 6 point MIM standard and the 2 point MIA trems.

Hi TTSC,

Not more confusing at all. There are only two sizes of string spacing for both Mex and Am Strats blocks, 2-1/16 inch and 2-7/32 inch. Both Mex and Am models will have either size, depending on the model. The quality of material also varies, depending on the model.

Got a response from guitarfetish. I asked specifically, "...what kind/grade of steel your blocks are made of. Are they made from 1018CRS as some other blocks are?" Their response says that they "....don’t have the metallurgical specs onhand." :?: I'll stick with Callaham, I believe that it is a better block than the GFS, at least Callaham can tell us what their blocks are made of.

Part of the confusion is that the MIM CP60 uses the custom shop vintage style 2 private bridge.. prior to this model it was not available outside of the custom shop. so callahams list is correct. I just replaced the block on my cp60 2 pivot. best upgrade ever especially considering the cp60s think poly finish :/
