Hey all. Some people in another thread were asking me to post a thread about the Start style build I'm doing and here it is. All of the parts are from GFS/ Guitar Fetish and AllParts. I wanted the general Strat look and feel, but with a sound that's more suited to the super heavy stuff I play.

So without any more delay, here are photos!

Test fit of all the parts (minus trem claw and tuners

Amber gloss finish maple neck. Not the typical Fender headstock. I like that. More unique.

Swamp ash body

GFS Power Rails Pickups. My friend has these in his Squire and they sound magnificent.
3 way switch. 1 volume. 1 tone. Simple.

I'll admit my friend helped me with the wiring.

Howdy!

Nice looking Strat you have there! Black on blonde, very tasty. Looks like your friend did a pretty tidy job with the wiring too. Good stuff! 8)

Put that beast together and let us know how those blade-buckers sound!

Cheers! :D

Andy

Thanks guys!

Actually, these photos were just of the test-fitting the parts. I'm working on the color right now. I'm staining it with a very dark grey (called Onyx), then I have yellow and dark green wood dyes to add on top of the stain. The whole body will have a gloss finish.

It's coming out pretty amazing. More pics soon.

Alright guys, there will be new pictures soon.

I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on this baby but I'm back at it again. I applied an onyx colored stain and I'm now going over that with a Reranch water soluble dye. It looks great so far!

My question right now is how long should I let the dye dry before I put on another coat?

Thanks!

CERI!!! You're needed here!!!!

Find Ceri mate, he's the master when it comes to applying die to wood, check out this monster strat restoration (this is the ultimate use of the word restoration btw)

So I made some pretty nasty mistakes with the wood dye and stain. The body looks pretty damn terrible right now.

I was wondering if anyone had experience removing dye and stain. Is there any good way to do it without sanding the body to all hell? Can the dye and stain even be pulled out of the wood at all?

Stain stripper? Problem is, once the stain is removed, how to re apply stain if the wood is full of chemical?

I've been doing some reading and it seems to be a bit futile to try to remove the dye and stain. I may just have to cover the whole thing with a solid color.... Not what I wanted to to...
