IMO it should be about how it plays and sounds not how it will wear. Just FYI all the guitars you listed besides the HighWay one and Road worn series have Poly paint ( Urethane or Polyester), which well not wear as easy nitrocellulose.

I do wonder though, when did Fender start offering sooooo many Strat models?? I mean, back in the 50's, 60's, probably the 70s, there was only one Strat, no? Maybe a couple of options, hardtail or trem, maple or rosewood.... there's gotta be like 50+ different Strat models today! And that's not even including the Custom Shop Strats! When does it end??

To answer your question, you should go play as many models, specially the ones with the features you like or want, then go for it. Buying a Strat based simply on a model and what others suggest is really not the way to go IMO.

So ask yourself:

Do I want "vintage" or "modern" specs
Road worn or new
Alder or Ash
Maple or Rosewood
etc...

It's a start...

Since I am not you, I can not give you the answer you seek, what is right for me may not be right for you.
This is why Fender and other guitar makes offer so many variations on what looks to be the same guitar...until you play them, then you find they are all a bit different from one another.
The only persons opinion here that is worth anything is yours, you have to play this guitar, so it has to be the one that feels right to you.

Go down and play these ones, and get a few of each model and then trust yourself, you will know the one that fits you right.

Buying a guitar is like buying a pair of new shoes, it has to fit right or you won't use them.

play all the ones in your budget.....get the one you like......i have a hw1 and got a american standard for cristmas and love it. For me playability, sustain and neck shape are most important.

ill go from lowest to greatest in price.
deluxe strat- this one is pretty cool, comes in really unique colors and has vintage noiseless pickups. which if you add a 69.00 midboost upgrade, you will find yourself with an inexpensive clapton.

highway one- this one has unique resistor wiring called the greasebucket circuitry.
what this does is when you roll the tone down, it doesnt add bass.
so what right? wrong. turn on your distortion pedal, roll tones to 1 or 2 and put in position 1 or 2, and you get this rich creamy distorted tone that i cant get off my am stdrd. or any other strat. (i sold this stupidly, but will eventually buy another)

american special- basically same as hwy 1, w/o nitro finish, and it has texas specials.
i think if you want a sweet, puchy, vintage, and at the same time full sounding this is the one. the ts have an accented midrange. really cool guitar too.
also for the price look into mim classic players 60s,50s, and cp baja tele. just fyi

now american standard, if you want this one and seperate from the STANDARD, which is still awesome. look for fsr's i know at one time sweetwater had a sweet mercedes blue for like 1100. it has texas specials, and locking tuners.
musician's friend offers a fsr std with vn and midboost circuitry ala clapton for 999.00.
also i think mf has a fsr std with some vintage pickups.

so there you go food for thought, what kindof music do you play????? that is key in what you get.
