I've got a Fender 50th Anny strat and I'm trying to find out all I can about it. It says made in the USA and '46-'96 50th, but I can't find out if its legit. The numbers start N6 then 6 more. The last 2 numbers seem to angel down slightly. Does this ring any bells?

I'm glad that you are asking this question.

What you have is a Fender American Standard Stratocaster made in 1996. It's not an anniversary model, just a Fender guitar made during Fender's 50th anniversary year. Every Fender instrument got this little badge on the head stock.

In 2004 Fender sold 4 anniversary Strat models.
1. MIM Gold Strat
2. An American Series: 2-color-sunburst, vintage '54 pickups, parchment colored single ply-pick guard, Maple neck, engraved neck plate and special tweed case with crushed gold shag lining with a 50th anniversary badge on the inside top of the lid. (I own this one and it's awesome).
3. A Deluxe Strat: 2-color-sunburst, Fender noiseless pickups, Maple neck, engraved neck plate and special tweed case.
4. A limited run Custom Shop Fender Stratocaster: These guitars are exact recreations of the 1954 Strat. Every aspect of these guitars are just like the originals and cost about $10K.
You can see these guitars in the 2004 Fender Frontline catalog.

I hope this helps.
