Hey all,

This is my first post here, and it looks like a great place for all things Fender. I currently have a '97 American Std Strat in a teal color, but lately I've been shopping a new AS to go with it. I have a Sienna Sunburst on order, due in early Feb, but also I like the Candy Cola color in pics, but I've been unable to find one in stores so I can see it in person.

Any opinions on the color? What kind of shade of red is it? Dark, bright, candy apple like?

Any comments would be appreciated. :D

John

Darker than candyapple red.

Heres a couple of candy apples next to a sunburst. Didn't use the flash so theres not too much affecting the colour.

With flash you can see the differences in paint type and undercoat colour

The real colour as seen by the eye is somewhere between those two. I'm a rubbish photographer and have no desire to improve.

The guitar in this thread looks like every cola I've seen and has some good comparisons too.

Candy Cola is darker, Mine seems to have a deep red black look to it, but it changes under certain lighting.
Even outside under full sun it has a metallic black look..I love it. :D

I Looked At One In Person About A Month Ago. Very Sweet. Wait Until You See One. I Think That Will Be The Next Colour I Buy In An American Strat. It Almost Changes Colour In Normal Store Light.

I had one that I'd ordered blind after Fender first introduced it (2008).

It's an interesting colour because, as already pointed out, it changes depending on the light and it has a nice chunky metallic flake texture which, along with the burgundy hue, give it a lot of class.

The guitar I had was great but here's the thing, as nice as the colour is, and for all the compliments it received, I could never find peace with the fact that it wasn't as RED as I'd hoped.

You might love it, though!

skimhit's pic is pretty darn close to how it looks in the flesh - but, in my experience, under artificial lighting it rarely looks quite so red.

That Was The Reason I Liked It. It Wasn't Just Boiler Plate Red That You See In So Many Guitars Today. That's Also One Of The Reasons I've Always Liked Sunburst Of Natural Woods.

Hi Dino,

That was exactly what I was wondering, how red it looks. I've seen Fender's Candy Apple Red and love that color. I don't necessarily need the Candy Cola to be like that, but was wondering how the two reds compared. I'm going hit another GC this weekend and see if they have one.

Thanks for the input!

Your Welcome. I Started Out As A Bassist And When I First Looked At Guitars To Buy I Wanted Red. When I Say One I Thought Ok It's Red What Can I Find That's Different. I Think They Look Great With Any Neck Choice.

Wow, this shot really shows off the beauty of this color! I couldn't see the pic early because my work PC blocks most photos, but thanks for posting this. :)

That is very close to how I remember it looking a while back. After Fender changed paint suppliers the color changed slightly and the last one I saw had a touch of brown to the tint . . . I didn't like it as much as the previous bluer version.

I love that color. Candy Cola is nicer than Candy Apple Red, in my opinion.

Remonds me of the red tintcoat on the newer genertaion Z06 Corvettes. Nice color for sure.
