I don't think you can assume that Fender is in some way endebted to the American Standard line. They don't care what sells as long as guitars sell. If anything they'd prefer the higher priced guitars to sell, the American Standard is very much a mid-range guitar. And isn't the longest running of the American made line. The 57RI is. That it is in some way a heir to the strat line is a bit off too. It bares only a passing resemblance to the original design.
I really can't see em worrying about one line selling more than another, as long as overall sales figures don't drop, or overall profit is affected.

I kinda like a Tele from this new series with the duncan HB in the neck, yummy. I can't wait to see them in person.

Hey Niki, just curious about this are you saying that original 57 and current 57RI are quite different? Given that the build and painting process and the current wood selection has changed what else do you see different? Actually I am more interested in the diffs between 62 and 62RI models, if you have any info please forward.
Thanks

I Never Played An Original 57 So I May Never Know What It Sounds Like To Me In Person. I Bought The 57 Reissue Because I Love The Range Of Tones That You Get And The Tone Zone Pickup Even Ad's More To It In Almost Any Amp I Played It On. As Far As Breakin

Dan.
That lot was more in response to the common assumption that Fender is somehow indebted to the American Standard line, or obligated to keep that line going forever. Nothing more.
As far as originals vs RI's. Well I've played a few vintage guitars, and to put it nicely, I'm glad there are reissues. Though I do like the old stuff, it's just not as good. There was a 63 lam boarded tele in some variation of light blue (sonic I'm pretty sure it wasn't daphne, but who knows with the effects of time) that I was interested in awhile back. It was a great guitar, really really nice. But colour affecting price took it away from my ability to purchase.
A friend has a 61, 335 thats pretty nice too but I wouldn't pay £19K for it.
In truth, the absolute cold light of day, eyes wide open truth. All nostalgia, sentimentality or desire to own a rarity aside. Non of the vintage instruments I've played rival current production CustomShop guitars as instruments.

Thanks buddy, the feeling I had about the vintage instruments was exactly that. I have very little experience playing with vintage models older than 70's and most of them were seen hanging in the "special" case. As far a 70's models most of them I experienced were dogs lunch comparing to my Am Standard.

I really like the Road Worn Strats. I just wish the '60s model came in sonic blue.

I had a Lonestar strat. Basically the same setup. Rather have that than a Roadworn, but I must warn anyone who will listen, the pearly gates has too much output for the Texas Specials. Volume jumps like crazy when going back and forth. A lower output pickup would have been better...

As long as there are famous strat players who use worn strats, there will always be a market for them.
