hey all,

hope this is the right place to post. and sorry, i expect this question is posted constantly. :S

just wondering whether this Fender is genuine? I bought it as a made in Mexico 1994, which I've checked the serial number on the headstock and sounds right.

The guy I bought it off said he'd changed the scratch plate and the pickups the fender USA p.ups.

I've got no reason to suspect it, the guy I bought it off was genuine, had 100% feedback and said if I was worried to take it to a guitar shop to have it checked and it was fine to bring it back if I wasn't happy. Just wanted to make sure.

cheers,
tim

The body, neck, switch and pickups look right to me for a early Mexican guitar.

I'm somewhat curious about the lack of router jig holes on the body. But some bodies have them, some don't. I thought all Mexican bodies had them, clearly I was mistaken.

The pickups and switch are the original Mexican ones. Not Fender USA or CustomShop pickups. Mexican ceramic magnet, high output ones. Not bad pickups at all if you can learn to tame the brash treble a tad.

brilliant thanks!

was quite worried for a moment there.

to be honest it sounds gorgeous and even if it was a cheaper body, it feels lovely and sounds really nice, i'd probably keep it anyway.
