Does anyone know how many of these were made, and if it's a good deal? I ordered one from M/F for 999, in Cherry Sunburst, which is an ash body and maple neck.

I have played one, it should be a fine guitar.

And since you didn't get the rosewood board, no fear of the dreaded "Too much sizzle" issue to worry over.

(On going joke here)

I didn't get it yet. Backordered until 01/31, but I got the last one. The drop-down for the cherry sunburst wasn't availble, after I ordered mine, and only the blizzard pearl was available.

aww man. You didn't get the one with rosewood? I heard the ones with maple necks sound like doo-doo, and the cherry sunburst ones have terrible feedback too.

I'm kidding. It looks like an awesome guitar. I've never played one. I'd like to check one out if the stored had any to try out!

Actually it has the vintage noiseless pups, like your '04....how do you like 'em on that guitar?

I like them. They are very warm and balanced. When I crank up the drive on my amp, they really sing, but to get a real gritty SRV like tone, I found that I have to have the gain way up on my Hot Rod Deville 212. I can get a fairly decent clapton tone out of them. Can't quite get the "Layla" tone, but I can get pretty close to 1990's Clapton. I just got a classic player 60's, and I may sell the 04, because the CP does it all so well.

If you really want to nail the late 1980's/early 1990's Clapton tone, swap the stock Vintage Noiseless pickups for a brand-new set of Lace Sensors. You might also consider that Eric used a Vox wah-wah pedal and a pair of Soldanos to achieve this particular "signature" sound.

Clapton stopped using the SLO-100 in 1994 and switched to the tweed '57 Twin reissue, which he still uses. He continued to use Lace Sensors until 2000, when he started using Vintage Noiseless pickups. Lace-equipped Blackies are only used for slide (except for the Tsunami Relief gig of 2005).

I can get the late 90's Clapton tone. What I have a hard time with is getting the 70's clapton out of the noiseless pickups.

In fact, you get the actual Clapton tone. Eric uses a tweed '57 Twin reissue and a heavier string gauge (.010s) since 1994. His personal guitars are equipped with Vintage Noiseless pickups since 2000 except for a Blackie with Lace Sensor pickups which is used for slide.

Between 2001 and 2003 Clapton ran his Crashocasters through a blond Fender Vibro King before switching to Marshall JCM800 heads/cabs for a short time in 2004.

Eric Clapton's tone is awesome. I don't necessarily want to sound like him, but when I jam on some of his stuff from Derek & the Dominos, "Slowhand", etc., I like to get that tone. The Classic Player 60's strat thru my Hot Rod Deville gets me there.

The JCM800's were used to drive his Leslie Cabinets. When he stopped using the Vibro Kings he switched to custom made amps from Cornell before eventually switching to the new Custom Shop 57 Twins.

These EC-endorsed Cornell amps were called "Custom 80". They looked much like an old tweed Twin amp because of their aged tweed covering, though they were made from a single layer of birch. Their minimalist design, with only 3 controls (volume, bass and treble), provides a truly "plug and play" amplifier.

With very few components in the signal path to corrupt the tone, their simplicity are their strength; the natural tone and response can only be a result of that no-fuss design. At the heart of the Cornell-Custom 80s is a pair of Tone Tubby speakers enhancing their response thus resulting in the perfect Blues sound.

The Cornell Custom 80 can be seen and heard on several DVDs such as The Queen's Jubilee Concert, the Concert For George and John Mayall's 60th Birthday concert, to name a few.
