Hello everyone. Just picked up a brand new 2010 American Standard Strat in the box from Fender and the truss rod hole is sloppily made. Below are some pics. Is this typical? Should I be mad? Aside from that the guitar looks and plays like a dream. Thanks for the assistance.

Yeah, the canal and how the hole is chipped on the edges closest to the nut. Its not smooth and round, but chipped and crooked.Thanks.

Actually, it doesn't look sloppily made at all. Rather, it appears someone was careless with an allen wrench while adjusting the truss rod. YMMV.

I was going to say something similar. I recently adjusted the truss rod on my 2008 Am. Deluxe Strat and found that the allen wrench I was using had the bend just a little too close to the walnut plug when seated into the truss rod nut. I could only turn a tiny fraction of a turn before the corner of the wrench hex was touching the plug. That's when I discovered that the plug was conveniently squared off where the wrench was touching - probably by the luthier who did the first setup on the guitar. Other than that the plug is okay and shows no signs of getting worse.

You're not the only one. This is a most valid point.
