I have a Sonic Blue Classic Player 60's that is waiting for me at my post office. I haven't really done any mods on my guitars in awhile, because I'm prone to buying guitars that have everything I need. What I'm wondering, is if the clapton mid-boost kit would be beneficial with the CS 69 pickups that come stock with the guitar? What other mods are most common for this model strat? I'm hoping that the CP 60's has the vintage feel with the modern touches. I'm not a fan of the AVRI series, because I like a little flatter of a radius, like the CP 60's has. The price and features of the CP made it a winner for me, and I am hoping it makes a good addition to my 3 other strats. I bought it used from a guy on a forum for a good price, so I didn't go play one first. I really don't want just another plain standard strat, and this guitar seems like it will be fun to play.

Hi rickyp,

That is a nice Strat as is, great pickups and neck. The only thing that I would consider, is maybe changing the tuners to the same locking tuners that the CP 50s has. But, you might like it just fine when you actually try it.

i considered something similar with midboost and 69s.
i believe it was martian who said, basically you can install the midboost with any pickups,
however, a midboost would boost the signal and boost the noise.
midboost goes hand in hand with noiseless pickups.

also, 69s are pretty much midscooped, probably not as much as big dippers and kleins s5,
but nonetheless.
just my 2 cents.

i think andybighair would agree with me that the 69s on that strat will definitely grow on you, i have one too and its awesome.

Mods simply for the sake of modding?

What a fascinating concept!

LOL. Just curious what mods other CP 60's owners have made to their guitars. I've got almost all of my guitars modded to my liking, and I'm hoping this one is great, right out of the box.

Good post there and I agree the 69's have grown on me...a lot! Bluestrattones discription of the 69's is pretty spot on. As with most pups, an bit of EQ tweaking and your in business. They really are very Straty pups.

IMO, The Mid boost might be a bit much with these pups. 25db is a lot. There's also the issue of wedging everything into a standard strat control cavity. Its do-able but tight. Here's a link that might help if you do go for the boost...

Clapton Mid-Boost Installation

I've made a few minor mods to my CP60's. I slightly rolled the fretboard edges and added a tone control for the bridge pup. Its all detailed here. Andybighairs CP60's Thread

Lets us know your thoughts when you pick up your CP60's. :D

Andy
