Alright, I just bought my first strat. I decided on the VG, because while I was playing it, I was amazed by its sound and versatile nature. Now, did I make a mistake buying it, because my friends have been saying that since it has the added Roland gear, they hollowed more of it out, which may effect the sound, resonation etc. I was just wondering if that was true, and would I be better off with a Regular Standard with no frills. Thanks.

You have answered your own question there mate!

If you are amazed at the sound and versatility then someone else's opinion shouldnt count.

Only you can judge whether the sound is good or not.

you might wanna invest in some rechargable batteries,
that thing burns them up very quickly

It takes 4 x AA batteries.

Fotunately the circuit is ony active when the plug is insterted into the output so when you arent using it the circuit doesnt drain the batteries.

Rechargeables are a good idea.

I highly second the rechargeable suggestion. I burn through 4 high quality AA batteries in just under 10 hours. keep in mind is ten hours of the plug being in the guitar jack, regardless if your using the modeling fucntions or not.

As to the effect of routing out space for the roland gear, it can't help but effect the guitar. There is less mass so the physics play into it. However, at least to my ear there is no desernable difference. Any downside is made up in the ability to model (very well I might add) a tele, humbucker, accoustic, and various tunings. awesome guitar. It would be nice to see some more color choices though.

Rechargables are a nessecity! They go through 4 AA's in about 6 to 8 hours, depnding on use and the charge . And they change out very quickly. The guitar is GREAT! I have had mine for about 4 months now. Don't woory about the lack of wood "meat" Not much more has been taken out of the body, just enough for the synth located in the back. Can't say I am dissappointed in the least. My first REAL guitar in 20 years, VERY satisfied!! Good luck.
