hi nick, the neck pocket isn't treated , just a wee bit of overspray at the edges that i sanded flat , the mij strat i done a while ago is sounding better all the time , only the outside was sealed on it not the routings , i know it sounds like a load of shite but it is doing wonders for the tone on the mij , i'm just wanting to see if it has the same results on the mim i'll leave the sealing for the moment mate , but i'm taking your advice onboard mate 8)
oh and as for those stupid holes , i forgot  cheers

And really, what's up with those crop circles. How come Squier can do exact same body in their CV line with a lot less wood removed. There are also those Mickey mouse ears in the neck pocket why oh why........ Good intro I am redoing my mexi too... This time it is going to get painted professionally.

Good luck with your project

I would suggest using gunstock oil to coat them, the will let the wood breath but will also keep it somewhat more stable to the effects of humidity.

5-8 coats should do it.

I'm afraid that you remove the conductive paint which is usefull to remove Electro Magn. Field. Or your guit don't have this paint like my American Standard guitars ?

That's what I was going to ask about. I don't own an MIM so I don't know if they have shielded cavities like the MIA models do but the residual color in the pics seems like it may have been conductive coating. Not something I would have done personally. I've heard that MIMs have incomplete shielding so it's prolly not going to make much difference but still ....

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The only MIM I've seen with shielding paint is the Powerhouse. I don't think the normal MIM's get it.
Horrible stuff.

:D i seem to have started something here 8) ok to start with , the mim did have the elctro paint under the poly (feckin mesy stuff) , my old mij did not have that paint , (thank feck) playing through my jcm800 there is no increase in noise between the two before i started modding the mim , wierd or what :D
jeffytune , i have a load of stock oil here mate , i used to do a bit of shooting and stock refinishing , but the way the mij is going i'll leave it for the moment , point taken as well mate, and i thank you as well , cheers
Alan

Hi Alan,

Tidy job on the cavities mate. What did you use to strip it out?
