This isn't an amp forum I know that but it is a Strat forum and I will be playing a Strat through this amp.

I play all types of music. Blues, rock, metal, southern rock, country, classical. I love all music. And at times I play it all. Which amps should I try before I buy. I'm using a Behringer right now and It's too fake sounding. Too many effects on it. Sound is not authentic if you know what I mean.

I'm looking at a Marshall MG100HDFX Half Stack right now but I haven't went and played it yet. Anyone have one of these? Thoughts, opinions, facts, greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Only one answer

Fender 6L6 or 6V6 tube amp. :)

Seriously if you really like Marshall classic sounds you will need to spend serious money for the good amp. On the other hand a good Fender amp and a Strat will cover a lot of music styles. Marshall amp you mentioned, I think I tried it once and personally did not find it that great. Check this out it might help.

I don't think you'll fare much better with a MG. Their not the most reliable amps out there either. I blew one in November that was just over a year old.
The MA looks good value if you're after a Marshall, as does the JMD combos.
Well worth putting up with the Behringer for a little longer and getting one of them combo's instead of the MG if you're after the Marshall sound.

Definitely look at the Hot Rod series of Fender amps. I have the Hot Rod Deluxe and it is killer for all styles. I love it and recommend it highly. I play mostly classic and southern rock but it will give you sweet cleans, and nasty distortions too, give it a listen.

I tried my Jimmie Vaughn through my buddy's Marshall Haze 40 W combo and was quite impressed by the variety of tones from clean to pure raunch I could get from it.The Class 5s are also a good bet.Although the Solid State Marshalls sound better than a lot of other SS amps I'd hold out 'til I could afford a tube amp.You could also look into getting a good used Marshall combo tube amp.I got a gem of a 4210 JCM 800 1-12 combo for only $500 and it sounds like a million bucks and at 50W is loud enough for all but the biggest of venues and has a knock-out punch.Vox makes some quite affordable hybrid amps that sound amazingly tube like as they have a 12ax7 tube in the preamp.

Stay far away from the MG series. I cant stand the way they sound!!! Ill second the vote for a class 5, they sound great!!! A Marshall DSL100 is an amazing amp that can cover a lot of ground!!!

I have a Music Man 150 watt 2x12 combo Ill sell ya. Come by and check it. Its a beast. Its basically a Fender Twin in steroids!!

Yeah if you can find a used DSL. They get a lot of flak in some circles, but they have to be my favourite modern marshall. Theres something very nice and squashy sounding about that clean channel on max.

Hi Matt,
I may take you up on the offer to come by and check out that amp. You've got plenty Strats I can try through it. :D. I will bring one of mine too. I'll get in touch with ya pretty soon.
