do u think fender should make an electric guitar like gibson? or should tuning be left to the guitarist, as robotics might be bad.

Sure, why not. While they are at it, design it so it will play itself too so I don't have to.

If anyone has noticed, the gibson robots are getting really cheap used. That's because the robot tuning is starting to fail. I'd rather just have the special knob that has a 1+/- cent tuner built in. I would rather have nothing that tunes the guitar for you.

The last gimmicky bomb that FMIC dropped was the VG Strat -- a total dud!

If they didn't learn their lesson with that debacle they deserve to lose their shirt......again.

Your pole does not offer a viable Yes Or No, Iv'e owned Gibsons and they do not suck :x
As far as the question itself, I do not see the reasoning, regardless of gremlins in the design, if you are not willing to learn various tunings then what is the point of learning an instrument.

Actually, a variation of this question would be to ask Joshua Bell, Anne Sophie Mutter, Hillary Hahn, Nigel Kennedy and most of the string virtuosos out of Juilliard and Berkley their opinions on a Robot Violin. :?

For me it is..... No Thank You !!!

Most people play in the same tuning all the time, normally E standard. Those who play in different tunings often have different guitars set up for different tunings. Sure it's cute and a good showpiece, but in my humble opinion it is 100% unnecessary. It just adds to the cost of an already expensive instrument, looks funny as hell and is difficult to repair if something goes bad.

I would like to vote no, but I don't agree that Gibson sucks, so...

not sure what the VS strat was.
i think gibson was onto something. i think they should try to perfect it better.
no its not for everybody nor should it be on every model they make.
its like everything else, time and place for everything, and its not for everybody.

You did mean the VG ?
I believe that (IMHO) it was an attempt to appeal to the recording studio crowd, but since digital recording and it's software evolves overnight, any model aimed at that market is playing catchup before it even moves out the door.
That being said, I would consider having one just to be able to interface with the G4 Mac. It should be a lot of fun, but one of the main drawbacks of any software reliant instrument is that in a live setting, the audience does not react well to a performer tweaking a computer, patience is minimal when even tuning up midstream. :?

I think the robot guitar was an interesting concept, definitely not for me, but some people liked it. I also think it should have been an expensive custom shop guitar for collector's. because overall it's useless for a gigging musician, so just hang it on the wall, it's novelty.

some would say the same about Fender road worn series, i guess it's all preference at the end of the day.

That's a pretty expensive "wall-hanger"!

:!:

Fender's VG Strat was something on the order of $1599 MSRP. The "Robo-Axes" from Gibson must've been close to the same.
