How do you make a guitar body with more than one piece? Wouldn't it all just be one big slab of wood?

it is cheaper to piece together a body out of two or three pieces of wood.

The days of the big old growth trees are gone. These days they use two smaller pieces, bookmatched and glued together. Then they cut the shape out. Some of the less expensive strats are made from 3 pieces. Truth is, that also makes the body more stable.

Ha ha, my 2 yr old Highway One HSS has a four piece body.
And I've seen some with even more than that.

And I have two strats with real nice one-piece ash bodies.
