Hi all, happy new year.

So the question pops up again? What is the action on your strat? I tipically prefer low action, like 2/64 around the 12th fret for the low E.

Fender setup guide calls for measuring action at the 17th fret, not the 12th. I use 5/64" at the 17th fret.

Yeah but Fender set up guide is just that, a guide. Not a set in stone rule that every Fender guitar should be set up to exactly those measurments.

Myself I use real measurments that don't require expression as a fraction or decimal  . Then I don't bother applying them to the guitar's setup. When it's right, it's right.

I keep my action as low as possible without going so low as to get all the associated problems with it being too low and then adjust my pickup height to that mystical perfect height so the guitar sings!!

Hi gerryblue, welcome to the Forum.

My action usually ends up pretty much as per Fender's factory specs. I'm just Mr Average I guess...

Cheers - C

PS: I thought just for once I'd amaze everyone by not going for the very obvious gag implicit in the thread title. How contrary of me! :D

I like my action at 5/64 at the 17th fret as well. It's perfect for me, no buzzing and easy to play. I think fender recommends 4/64 but its all up to the players own preference. Set it to what you like and enjoy!!

I am somewhere around 5/64 - 6/64. Did not measure it exactly, I am going by feel.
On my #1 with micro-tilt adjusted I did set it up to 2/64 (once for curiosity) and bridge floating a bit, however it was difficult for me to bend above 12th, kept "tripping up" on adjacent strings.

Mine are about 4/64. maybe a touch lower. When i go lower I get buzz. I don't like fret buzz.

Slightly lower than standard but still higher than most people.

About 0.125 - 0.13 at the 12th. That's from top of fret to bottom of string.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

A low 2mm (5/64'') at the 12th fret.

After measuring, I guess I'm a robot, as I measured 1/8" or 8/64". So kiss my shiny metal $@! ^^

You're supposed to measure it?

I lower mine until it just starts to buzz, then back it off a 1/2 turn.

I agree, but the poll is very specific in its measurements and the OP was very specific as to where he measured so unless all measurements are made at the same reference point, the comparisons are meaningless.
