the Tremolo Arm on my brand new 2010 American Deluxe Strat HSS slips into the hole on the bridge but does not lock or "stick in".
It just pops in and out and it you bend over it falls out which is fine I just want to make sure it is working correctly and I have not lost some little spring or clip.
So the questions is is it supposed to go in and out very easily

Do I know a lot about this Strat...No
Do I know How to play this Strat well......No

Do I love this Strat.....Hell Yeah....got it for Christmas.
Sound unbelievable

Whoa
It does snap in....you really have to push on it and to get it out it feels like you would break something pulling so I hold the bridge down with my thumb and pop it out.....????

Any tricks to this that I am missing

There should be a little set screw in the trem block that adjusts how "tight" the arm is. I believe you have to put the arm in and hold it down to access the set screw. It's been a long time since I've had an American Deluxe so I'm going by memory on this (and I hope I'm not confusing this with some other company's trem).

I've owned and played my 2006 Strat Deluxe Ash for three years and popped my arm in probably 1,000+ times. It's always been real tight(two hands to remove). Now it just suddenly quit "snapping in". It sounds like yours! Let me know what you find out.. I'm bringing it in next week for surgery.

Ooops - I must have been thinking of the snap-in arm on EBMM guitars and the push-in arm on PRS guitars. I could have sworn the Fender also had a screw to adjust the fit of the arm.

here is a pic

Right next to the slot is a set screw and I think if you adjust that set screw it loosens the tension on the arm

I've noticed that the deluxe locking tremolo assembly is available on the products page.

For which reason Fender doesn't include the bridge assembly on the current Deluxe HSS Strat? All American Deluxe HSS models were offered with the locking bridge option between 1998 and 2007.

all i was ever concerned about was the fact that my tremelo are pushed in really hard and you had to push down on the bridge rel hard and jerk the arm to get it out so all I wanted to do was make it easier to the arm in and out and was told that the screw that I discuss just needed to be loosened.
It is a very bad idea to leave the arm on and put it in the case.
The back behind the fuzzy fabric is just styrofoam and if you break it it will start to come apart

I would still like to know if that is the right screw to loosen that arm holder spring.
I am not going to take my brand new Strat apart to adjust it I am planning to just cut the right sized allen wench short enough to get it in the gap behind the block from the back

Aha - so I wasn't going crazy after all. That is the set screw I mentioned in my first post.

Thank you for the information, I've owed an American Deluxe V Neck for over a year and never knew about these adjusting screws.

Using the screws you can adjust the vibrato arm to swing loose or tighten it so it stays in place.

The problem is the only way to adjust the tension on the screws is to:
#1 - Unscrew and remove the back plate.
#2 - Remove all the tremolo springs.
#3 - Slacken all the strings completely (fortunately you do not need to use a capo or remove the strings because of the locking tuners).
#4 - Remove the tremolo unit from the pivot screws.
#5 - Adjust the arm tension screws.
#6 - Replace the tremolo unit on to the pivot screws.
#7 - Replace the tremolo springs onto the claw.
#8 - Re-tune the guitar from a state of completely slacked strings.
#9 - Replace the back plate (optional)

If the tension is not to your liking you must repeat the entire process again.

The locking tuners definitely make the process go faster, but it still takes a bout 15 minuets to go through the entire process.

Honestly I believe the tension system to be a design flaw. The original screw-in arm with drop in tension springs accomplished the same thing but works much faster. Simply screw the arm in a little big for a loose swinging arm or screw it in more to lock the bar into a non-swinging position.

I love the American deluxe Strat and it's bridge but I really with it had a screw in vibrato arm. :(

I don't think the set screws will adjust the pop in tension. The pop-in tension is set by a little washer which is wedged into the slit on the bridge. You can see the slit on the picture but washer wedged inside is not visible on this photo. There is a ridge that runs around the circumference of the bottom of the bar, this ridge is where the washer holds the arm.

If you arm is not staying on your bridge the small washer has been pushed out of place.

You may be right however I have talked to two different support specialists at Fender and they said that that second set screw would do that.

They also said that I should make sure that is what I wanted as over time it does loosen.

I will l call them again and get them to commit "are you positive"....will be my next call.

So I read that Clapton like his "blocked" so the bridge is locked.
I think most of the time the is what I am looking for but I do want to be able to push the trem arm in for some stuff.

Is there a bridge that offers a locking tremolo and can be locked and unlocked very easily

On the American deluxes that I have had I have found that at first, say from installation one to ten are very tough and removing it seems almost impossable, but soon enough it loosens up some and becomes doable. I suggest you wait until you are sure that you need it to be different than it is.cheers
