Need Help. As a beginner, I recently purchased an American Deluxe Strat. When removing the protective plastic on the pick guard, I could not remove it all from under the tone and volume knobs, so the is some ragged ends showing. Can the knobs be removed and replaced easily in order to get to the rest of the plastic film? Appreciate any help on this.
Thanks,
Russelld2

I use the string technique if I can't pull them off by hand.

(string that's smaller than a shoelace)

A stiff credit cards works well,, S1 comes off the same way. Pry the knob up from the bottom.

Rather than a string, I use a hankerchief or piece of t-shirt rag, wiggle the rag under the knob, wrap it around, and yank it off. Then when you put it back on try to get the knurled grooves lined up, you'll feel it. Might even want to pay attention to the "10" position when you put the knob back on. Please don't use a butter knife as a tool, it's actually a cliche or a stereotype for guys who really shouldn't be trying to do things themselves. If you must use a tool, try a plastic putty knife. There's also a plastic wedge used by windshield installers that works very well, but really all you need is a rag.

Two Spoons. I came by this advise a year ago. It works the best, and absolutely will not scratch. Just put the tip of the spoons under the knob on opposite sides, then push down on the handles. Lifts the knobs right off.

By the way, if you use the spoon method, the button will come right out too. It's just pressed into the volume knob.

It is best NOT to use anyting to pry the knob of in cane

1) you sctrath the pickguard

2) you break the edge of the knob.

Best suggestion so far is that by Bob V - the one I use is a piece of clothwrapped under the knob all the way round then lift it up.

In this way there can be no scratchng and you will never damage the edge of the knob.
