Do you have this problem with any other guitars?
If yes, can it be that when you press the body, your fingers press harder on the strings, so making them sharp.

Just a thought.

I try to play with a light touch. never had this problem before. That is what is so mind boggling about this.

Yes indeed, as much as it sucks to hear, it is a very flexible piece of maple that is causing your woes. You can keep the guitar and wait for time and age to slowly stiffen the wood, and just tolerate the issue until, if ever, it goes away. Other wise it could always be this way and you will have to concentrate more on not putting extra pressure on the neck. Some Gibson's with the slim-taper necks have this same issue. If you can easily adapt to playing this guitar with a lighter touch and other wise love this guitar's feel and tone, keep it. If it is just not acceptable, sell it and move on. Life's too short to play a guitar you are not happy with.

There are probably no screws loose on your guitar! I have 14 strats, and some of mine have this issue. What you have is a "soft" piece of maple. Each and every piece of wood is of different density and some just suck.

I think this is the problem. Neck screws are good. I even loosened off the strings and the same thing happens. If I put my guitar on a flat surface and hold the body still, I can press down on the nut very gently and the neck moves tightening the strings. I guess that means I need a new neck.

Hi Kimmo. No, it really doesn't.

Read Nikininja and Martian's posts carefully again. It is definitely one or other of those issues and solutions.

You haven't told us if you've checked the neck bolts yet, as Niki advised. That's the first thing to do, and then move on to Martian's post. Both of these gentlemen seriously know what they're talking about. Listen to what they say.

Good luck - C

I think a video demostrating the problem clearly will net you the best answers, I'm having a very hard time grasping exactly whats going on as well.

You could buy a new neck. This is not necessarily a defect, unless it is really bad, it's just a slightly weaker piece of lumber. Maybe it will be covered under the Fender warranty? It would be a good idea to ask a Fender dealer. I'm 99% certain your issue is a flimsy piece of maple and NOT loose screws. I have a few strats with this same issue. One last thing.....where do you keep this guitar, and what is the humidity level in the room it is kept? Way too much moisture content might cause this, but then you would be having issues with tarnished hardware and strings and such.

I brought it in and found out that it's just the way it is. I compared it to other necks in the store and they all seem to be like that. Plus I have mine hard tailed and the tech says that will make it even worse. I learned to play it and I love it. So shes a keeper. Thanks everyone for your help.

What a very odd thing for him to say.
