In reference to the neck finish, have you thought about an oil & wax finish ?
I have the same finish on two of my basses an like it !

This stuff is excellent : "Birchwood-Casey, Tru Oil & Gun Stock Wax"

Image

Dont follow the instructions on the bottle, (its a guitar neck not a gun stock  ) start with a clean, saneded down to bare wood neck an with a dry cloth apply a small ammount of the oil to the wood, leave it a couple of mins then wipe the excess off with another cloth, then as much as you like of the wax an again, diffrent cloth buff it up, Very smooth neck an totaly protected against the elements !

Good luck with your project an looking forward to the finished pics !

danny-79 yep it's getting oiled and waxed , it's had 4 coats of the danish oil just now , i'll give it a good buff tonight and see how it is , then i'll get onto the waxing . the only reson i have danish oil is for refinishing gunstocks :D unfortunatly i slipped a disc in my neck and anytime i try shooting i can feel it starting to go , so i had to give it up :( , but it did get me back to playing the guitar again

(the oil an wax is on my Stingrays only)
Sorry to hear about slipped disk but glad something good came out of it !
Good luck with your build an looking forward to the finished pics !!!

hi guys , sorry there hasn't been much action on this , but what with work and waiting an eternity for a bloody body (not a real bloody body ) to turn up things haven't been moving at all , so anyway the body appeared yesterday :? and a bit of an anti-climax , it was sunburst on the front , the back was plain black , it's meant to be nitro , it's thin whatever it is but i could spray (paint , before anyone says something :D ) better after 8 pints of my home brewed brown ale , the neck pocket is about 2mm wider than the usual , it is ash ,so thats good :D , so anyway i went at it last night to see how the body/ neck /pup combo sounded , and i have to say it sounded bloody nice , i wired the pickgaurd up last week , 60's style with cts pots and a 1.5uf pio cap , vintage waxed cloth wire ,ect , this sounds really nice
i'm going to dismantle the alanocaster at the weekend and get some pics , and do some work to the neck pocket size to make it look a bit better and get the headstock decal sorted out , sorry for the delay guys , cheers
Alan
