I took your advice re the frets Al, it worked a treat! I polished all the chrome too, the grime that came off was unbelievable. She's looking more like a Fender now, still have work to do though. I'll leave the strings until tomorrow, just in case you want to take a look at the pots ( I should have listened to you). It will be cool to see a candy cola strat & tele together, 8) I'll see you tomorrow  Thanks again mate.

i was sitting last night looking at the neck i got the other week and there were some small dings and marks in the finish , i wasn't too bothered with them untill last night so i sanded the bugger till it was lovely and smooth :D , but the sanding has taken all the varnish / clear coat of and there are a few spots where the sealer coat has been sanded off through to the bare wood , my question is this what would the best sealer to use be and i have a can off acrylic clear spray paint for use on cars , would this be ok to use ? thanks
Alan

Hi Alan,

+1 For the Danish Oil Finish. Takes a while to prep the body for an Oil finish but your right, is does look nice!

I'd also recommend waxing it afterwards.

Used it to finish my last build. Waxing after the oil makes maintaining the finish easier as you can just re-buff it.

I've always like the look of a naked oiled body! :D

Keep us posted!

Andy

well thats the sanding just about done , just the edge of the rounds bit on the headstock to do and it's ready 8) i'll get it finished after i make the dinner (chicken tikka and tandoori with cheese naan and chapati ) all handmade by me  however i digress :D ,

i've never used the wax after oiling before andy looks good though i must say 8) , but i don't know how the wax would go on the neck wear wise , any thoughts andy ? , cheers
Alan

Whoops! I though you were going to sand the body down!

But it just so happens I'm planning to make a few necks and finish them with oil & wax, based on the results of the body in the above pic's. Its silky smooth and very slippery, perfect for a neck IMO.

But I can't really comment too much as I haven't built my necks yet, but my thinking is that once the neck does start to wear the wax can easily be re-applied or buffed. Should be good to compare this against the satin poly on most other necks I own.

If the oil feels good don't worry about the wax. :D

Andy
