Ahhh, I see Ceri, friendly, gentle humor. Let me give it a try, see what you think.

Ceri wrote:
And frankly all of that applies to nearly all the other tone stuff people agonise about too. Multi-piece bodies, fingerboard wood, bridge saddles - even pickups. None of that stuff ever reaches the ears of the audience, even the guitarists. At most it can only be about making the instrument nicer for its player.

So I go to a party and hear the awesome sound of a fantastic guitar coming from the other room. The tone was the most amazing sound, as good as any that I had ever heard, the sound was just as good as anything that Clapton or Hendrix ever played. When I rounded the corner, to my surprise, I spotted this guy playing a Strat Pack guitar and amp, and I realized that no one really needs a Signature series or other expensive guitar, because the Squier is just as good with it's killer sound. None of the more expensive guitars features are worth it, because no one can tell the difference. Now I think that I can ditch all of my American Strats, skip the Custom Shop Strats and go for the Squier, no difference, so no need to pay all of the extra money.

....yeah right, maybe in retardville!!!  (note two laughing smileys for twice the good nature and twice the humor, and the smileys insure that no one can be insulted by this, cool) <---- That's the "I totally get it" icon.

Shimmilou, very, very politely: you really have got my tone wrong.

I could make some more tone jokes at this point, but I suppose that would probably be a bad idea. Wouldn't it?

Neither you nor anyone has been insulted by me.

Now you know.

Cheers - C

Never said that you insulted anyone Ceri, where do you get that? Did you draw an inference from my post? I can't imagine why, I was just trying my hand at some of your good-natured humor. I wouldn't know who was insulted and who wasn't, since no one said that they were insulted, and I didn't say that you insulted any one. <------ that's the "are you sure?" icon. I guess that mine wasn't so funny huh? Oh well, I tried. :extremely polite:

If anyone's interested, you're free to go to the reverb nation in my signature, listen to our songs and see if you can pick out the expensive guitars used over the cheap ones. Might be fun and insightful.

I had the same thing happen to me at a party one time except when I went around the corner the sound was coming from a 8-track tape player.

Yeah but what people don't realize is that they have no idea about equipment used on most recordings. There's plenty of supposition fuelled by marketing and thats about it.

I strongly doubt whether people can hear the differences between a singlecoil and humbucker simply from a recording. Let alone whether the guitar is a strat, tele, sg, lp or whatever.
Only guitarists sat in bedrooms doing nothing worry about that stuff. Musicians consider sound as a whole.
Shred for my guess (and that's all it is) I reckon that is a squier bridge singlecoil. Though that slight rounding of the attack leads me to edge towards a bucker. One of the two, a high output singlecoil or a bucker.
For the driven lead sound, I haven't a clue. Theres simply too much going on for me to hear.

Niki, are you talking about the song "recession"?

Palm muted guitar= Hamer Slammer- Duckbucker middle
Rhythm guitar= Hamer Slammer- JR jr. neck
All other guitars= Squier Stagemaster - Blues Saraceno neck Hum

Pickups and pots were the only things modded on those guitars.

I realize it would be extremely hard to guess this sort of thing. I admire you for sticking your neck out a little and giving it a shot. If I wasn't involved in the recording, I'd never be able to guess.

There were 3 fairly expensive guitars used in our album.
1. Fender '57 AVRI
2. Ibanez RG (MIJ)
3. Epiphone Vintage Hollowbody

The rest:
1. Hamer Slammer
2. Squier Stagemaster
3. Squier CV 60's

The pickups and guts were the only mods with the exception of the Fender (new pots and switch only) and Epi (completely stock).

Thank's nikininja about a cow bone at my butcher, I must say you have greats ideas.

So your bone nut give just a little better sound. It's often the case with improvement but te sum of many little better tings = better guitar.

Yep Shred Recession.

I've no shame for getting it wrong. I agree with you wholly, you can't tell on a recording.
A friend of mine was a apprentice engineer then full fledged studio engineer for quite a few years. He wised me up to the facts. Namely with songs he recorded or helped record.
Parisienne Walkways for one, being recorded on the studio's Ibanez.
Albatross for two being recorded on a strat.
Both tracks are synonymous with classic LP sounds. Infact a large percentage of the guitarist population believe them to be the same guitar. Greeny's LP that he gave to Moore.

Stratele.

You really need the bone from the bottom of the leg. Near the foot. That is the densest. And the stuff is really really hard to cut. But it stops the string from cutting the bone too. Also you will need to prepare the bone. I will email details tomorrow. I need to ask the wife how we got the grease and marrow out of the bone. Be warned, the stuff stinks.

Thank you bshane84. I really do appreciate that. This is my first attempt at anything other than Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, etc.. And I'd have to say that it's been a real blessing so far being in this band. Glad you enjoyed it. 8)

Don't tell the butcher that! He may chase you out the shop with his big chopping knife.

He will probably give you a bone Stratele. They just throw them away, so it is not like he will lose money by giving it to you.
I buy some meat when I get bone, just to be polite. Maybe you could get some meat for a pet or relative?
