Could any owners of the 50's Roadworn Strat post any pics they might have of their fretboards as I'm interested in the wear on the board...particularly whether it has evolved as you've owned the guitar to look a little more authentic...

Thanks, but it's the Roadworn in particular I'm interested in.

The fretboard wear on them looks rather fake (IMHO at least) and I'm just wondering whether the nitro lacquer on the fretboard is thin enough that after a few months playing that wear starts to evolve a little or whether I'd need to do some work on it myself to make it look a little more authentic.

i cant confirm either way, but i seriously doubt it starts to look real after a few months of play or even after a few years. The fact is they look terribly fake and I dont see how you could go from that awful fake looking relic to something that looks believable or realistic. Best bet is to buy your own custom unfinished neck and have someone relic it for you. Mark Jenny is the man and will make you exactly what you envision. http://www.mjtagedfinishes.com

I completely agree with this statment. I have never seen an old legitimately worn neck look anything like the Road Worn necks.

To be fair, I've seen very few relic'd maple boards that actually look like a real worn vintage neck.

I'm just wondering whether the nitro around wear on the 50's Roadworn is fragile enough that the wear at least starts to look less like a template...

That said, I'm leaning towards an American Special Tele now anyway...but thanks for your answers.

By the way, the RW necks are not finished in Nitro like the body, the necks are satin poly. It used to say so in the specs, not sure if it does anymore on this new website
