If you decide on a Seventies style Strat, be aware that the neck/body joint should be very tight. As you may know, the neck is attached with three instead of the original and current four bolt method. Having owned a couple original '70's Fenders, the three bolt Fenders are more dependent on a snug fit to stay stable.
There's nothing like the sound of a '70's Strat with a ash body. The CBS style head stock adds a downward shift in tone, contributing to the overall sound of the guitar.
