I have a brand new American Strat (see her at the "Santa came early" post: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=48128)

The problem is the E and sometimes the A string buzz and rattle a bit and I don't know how to solve it so any help would be good.

Thanks in advance, HustlePT 8)

Hi HustlePT,

Since you just got it, if you are new to adjusting a Strat, I agree with way cool jr, take it back to where you bought it and have them adjust it for you while you watch (they should do it for free). It will probably only take a small adjustment to the truss rod and/or saddles, and should take 10 minutes to adjust. Being able to watch someone make the adjustments might help you understand what they are doing.

If you want to try it yourself, see if the rattles are on both the higher and lower notes, or only on the lower notes. If rattle is present on both high and low notes, then raise the saddles for the low E and A, by first loosening the two strings, then turning the two Allen screws on each side of each saddle about a quarter-turn CW, re-tune and check. Adjust a little more if necessary until no rattle. If you note that the rattles are only present on the lower notes, and the higher notes don't rattle, then loosen the truss rod about an eighth of a turn CCW, retune and check again. Here is some info on setup, not hard and fast rules, just a good starting point. :)
