Trying to find out what set of strings was originally issued for the '97 Am Vintage '62 Strat RI. Cannot find an original source that gives the information. I use 10s, but am wondering what came on it in '97. Thanks.

Hi afishman9,

I believe that the '62 RI originally came with 10s then, as they do now. :)

Thanks for the reply. The tremolo spring package says the guitar was equipped with Fender 150 Light strings, but I'm not sure if this was originally with the guitar.

Wow! I hope that the picture is wrong bluesstrattone! A walnut plug on the HS would ruin the vintage look of the '62 IMO. The white one on the site looks correct, and will probably be that way on the new ones (first link below). There are many anomalies with pictures like that on the Fender site. For instance, check out the HS decal for the CP 60s, it shows serial numbers below Fender, just like an original 60s Strat has. The CP 60s does not come with the decal shown in the pics (second link below). :(

I'm pretty sure my 1996 AVRI '62 came with 10s, which is what I still use on it today.

Thanks, guys. Plan to continue to string w 10s, but was curious since the tremolo spring envelopes said it originally came w 150Ls. Spent the afternoon modding a Blues Jr with Billm's kits (tone stack, input jack, and twin stack mods so far.) Sounds great.

I modded my BJr also, tone stack, twin tone, adjustable bias. Great tone improvements that really make the amp much more versatile. I forgot to mention that I used 10s on my '62 RI, and paired with the modded BJr was pretty sweet sounding. :)

Gibson did a similar thing to the J-4 if you now look on their website you can see they use a black nut made of graphite or something.

It just looks odd on both and annoys me

Thanks Shimmilou. Didn't install the adjustable bias yet and one other mod I got. Ran out of time.
