I've got an '84 Concert and it was noisy as all get-out. Did some research, made some adjustments ('verb is very noisy, but silent when dialed to zero), and voila, it was now whisper quiet with nothing plugged in. Got my best lead, plugged in my 62 Vintage Strat and - boom - the noise was back. Now realizing it's the guitar and not the amp (so much, anyway). A distinct annoying buzz. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Well I wouldn't be looking to shield, solder or fiddle about with them pickups at all.

Find someone well versed in vintage instrument restoration and get their opinion.

The other thing is with noise, its hard on a internet forum to hear whether the level of noise is normal, whether it's coming from the pickups or the wiring. I strongly suggest you don't go poking around inside such a prestidgous instrument.

The other thing with amp noise is what is in your environment.

Did you try turning off other electronics or lights in the room?
Does the noise change as you move/turn around?
What about other rooms in your home?
