Came across this add just a few minutes ago and was thinking it's pretty since i love gold tops, but after a few minutes of looking at it i feel overwhelmed by the gold.

id this guitar collectible or worth what is asked for it? since it is Mexican i assume the collectible status is low.

Hi Papa-J: good question. Answer, this much...?

That's a Strat built by Yuri Shishkov in the Fender Custom Shop for Prince (the artist formerly known as the artist formerly known as Prince), after he had a dream in which he saw himself playing such a guitar. It is fully gold leafed from the tip of the headstock to the tail button and all the metal parts are gold.

Is that too much?

Cheers - C

haha leave it to prince(formerly know as blah bah blah..) to do something like that.

This guy is asking 950.00 for the MIM fender Gold Strat, I might offer him a trade for one of my guitars, but I gotta do more research to make sure i'm not screwing myself.

I've fitted all-gold bling on a few of my guitars.

And I have a guitar in Firemist Gold.

But I would never build a gold guitar with gold bling.

It's just too much of a good thing.

One sold on e-bay not too long ago for $450.00. It was used but it looked like it was in really good condition. In my opinion there's no way a MIM is worth that kind of money. But that's just my opinion. I hope nobody holds it against me. It may be worth that much to someone else and if so then that's good. :D

Is that too much?...

No, not quite enough, the "Contour Body" decal is still black.

BTW, the Strat in the ad is the Strat 50th Ann, not the Fender 50th (that would be '96). I also think that price is too high for that Mex Strat, not enough there to command double the price of a Mex Std.

Yo mate! I had this one in mind for him as well. To answer his first question..if a world famous ancient Egyptian king had been a rock star, this would have been his stage guitar and the Custom Shop would then have been obliged to do a replica of it. Instead of the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, we'd have had The Pharaoh Formerly Known as Tut.

IMO I wouldn't pay the premium for a guitar like that. Even though I like the look of gold strats (especially gold leaf strats), this is one doesn't do it for me

This is exclusively an object des arte. 8) I'm biding my time waiting to see if our esteemed colleague in Paris will have any designs on it.
