I just got an american deluxe and noticed when I was trying to bring down the tone for the bridge pickup it changed the middle pickup as well. I thought that the bottom tone control was only supposed to affect the bridge pickup.

No - the current wiring is the upper tone control (the middle knob) is for the neck pickup and the lower tone control (bottom knob) is for both the middle and bridge pickups. Every "modern wired" Strat I've had has been wired this way.

Thanks, just wasn't sure. The last strat I owned(about 10 yrs ago) had the emg's and "tone" wasn't something I paid much attention to, or messed with. I wish there was something to adjust individually.

Typically EMGs use active tone controls - an EXG tone expander which is very similar to Fender's own TBX system and an SPC presence (mid-boost) control which smoothly boosts the mids - making the single-coils to sound like an overdriven humbucking pickup.

Both the EXG and SPC are part of the DG20 pickup set (named after former Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour).

I bet your guitar has the DG20 set on it, though I'm not sure about.

my guitar HAD the eg-20 set on it, I sold it 10 years ago. I have an Am. Deluxe now. I just wish the volume knob was a bit more out of the day. I looked on warmoth and might go for the delong. know position some time. WIsh I had the money to have a few custom strats. I'd get one with EMG's and a wilkinson.
